CALEB B. EVANS, JOHN OARIJISLE, AND GRANT H. BURROWS. OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
Design No. 4,958, dated May 30, 1871.
DESIGN FOR IRON NIANTELS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same We, OALEB B. Evans, J 01am GARLISLE, and GRANT H. Bnnnows, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Iron Mantels, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of our design is fully represented in the accompanying illustration, to which reference is made.
A is the shelf of the mantel No. 1. Its outer edge a is an ogee molding. It has a curved outline from end to end, there being two re-entering curves on each side of the center.
B is the ornamented face of the mantel, which rests upon the pedestals O.
The inner corners b of the pedestals are chamfered at a miter from the top downward to their middle, at which point the chainfer surface vanishes in the square corner.
Immediately on top of the pedestals is a series of moldings, c, which forms the base of the ornamental face 13. They conform in plan to the pedestals O.
The outer corners (l of the face B are chamfered 011' from the shelfA to a point a. short distance above the moldings c.
The inner edge is chamfered on from the moldings 1'0 to within a short distance of the key-piece D, which projects out from the face B, beneath the center of the shelf A. This key-piece is plain upon its sides. Its face, which has the greatest projection at about one-third its length, below the shelf A, is in members of a double-ogee form. It extends down below the crown of the arched-grate opening.
E E are panels of a triangular shape. They are surrounded with moldings of several members, 0.
The moldings c c are surrounded by the plane surface of the face 15. They extend about the panels from about the springing line of the arched-grate opening.
The panels, as well as the snrromnlin moldings, present concave faces to the key-piece atfjl \Vc claim as our invention The design for iron inantcls, as shown and described.
