SAMUEL MAOFERRAN AND ELHANAN OMENSETTER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNORS TO SAMUEL MAGBERRAN.

nnsren run A earn.
\Ve, SAMUEL MAcrERBAN and ELHANAN OMEN- SETTER, of the city of Philadelphia and State of Penn sylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Gate, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of our design is fully represented in the accompanying photographic illustration, to which reference is made.
The photograph represents a front elevation of the gate.
The upper and lower rails A A are connected with the central elliptical frame B, which has a rebate, a, for connecting at pleasure at medallion of any design, so as to vmake the gate susceptible of indefinite changes in its central configuration.
\Ve do not confine ourselves to the elliptical form of the frame B, as we design to have of any curved form, or of square, octagon, or other angular form.
The uprights O C have, midway between the rails A A, a square, I), ornamented with a ring, (1, and leaved ornaments e.
The members ff, above and below the square, have leaved ornaments, g g.
The members h h have vertical recesses, j.
On the lower ends of the uprights there are egg shaped ornaments, k and k, and leaved ornaments, I.
The upper ends of the uprights have Ionic caps, D, terminating with a swell having egg-shaped ornaments, m, and central projections, it.
There is an open scroll and leaf-work, E, projecting, from the under edge ofthe lower rail A, and connecting with the lower end of the uprights G G by means of the balls 0 0, the middle portion of which is covered by the broad pendent leaf 1), whose stem q connects with the frame B and double scrolls 'r r.
The upper rail A has a scroll and leaf cap-piece, 1*, which has a broad crown leaf, G.
The spaces S S between the frame B and uprights C O are filled in with ornamental scroll-pieces, H H, resembling the configuration of the letter S.
\Ve claim as our invention- The design for an iron gate, as shown and described.
In testimony that the above is our invention, we have hereunto set our hands this 23d day of April, 1870.
