SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 31,742, dated October 31, 1899.
Application filed Septemherll, 1899. Serial No. 730,181. Term of patent 14 years.

Be it known that I, HERMAN A. WILHELM, a citizen of the United States, residing at La Porte, in the county of La Porte and State of Indiana, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Metal Cans, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of a can, showing my new design. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the base of the can, showing in elevation the bottom of the can; and Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the can.
Referring to the drawings, the leading or material feature of my design consists of a can having transverse grooves or gutters I) Z) in its bottom, which are united in V shape and merge into a tube I). Said tube projects beyond the base 0 of the can and has threads formed on its outer end, as at The sides of the can are parallel and extend below the bottom to form the base 0, and the general shape of the can is cylindrical, with annular ribs a a formed therein.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is-
The design for a metal can substantially as herein shown and described.
