(Applic lion flled Feb. I 1899.;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES F. LEHMANN, OF NE\V YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A HELMET.
To (all whom it "MLZ/ concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. LEHMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, (Brooklyn,) in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Helmets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
My design relates to helmets, and has particular reference to the brims thereof. Its object is to produce a helmet with a brim of such shape that it will afford protection to the eyes of the wearer, and at the same time will protect the back of the neck of the wearer against exposure to the sun, the.
The design will he described more particularly with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a helmet embodyingmydesign. Fig. 2 isarear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same,and Fig. 4 is a top elevation of the same.
The front portion or vizor 6 of the brim is flared outward from the crown 2 of the helmet, and its front surface forms a substantially straight line, as shown by the side view in Fig. 3. The angle of this flare. increases as the brim extends to the rear of thehelinct, and the straight surface at the front of the vizor gradually merges into the outwardlyturned sides 3 3, as shown by the side View in Figs. 1 and 2. The outwardly-flaring rear brim is curved with a sweeping curve, as shown at 1 in the side view in Fig. 3, and this brim and the curve formed therein gradually merge into the sides 3 3. As is illnstratedin Figs. 1 and 3, the edge of the brim is cut to form a compound curve, the front portion 5 being but slightly curved and the rear portion 7 having a more pronounced curve.
Having thus described my invention, I declare that what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design fora he] met as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
