TO ALL WHGM THIS MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that l, HENRY M. SHERWOOD, of Chicago, in the county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented or produced :t new Design for School-Desir and Seat-Frames; and I do hereby declare that the following is n full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying photographic sketch,
'and the letters marked thereon, making n part of this description, in which- Figure l is a perspective representation of my invention.
This invention relates to a cast-iron seat and desk-frame, und it is ornumentcd with bends, scroll-work, and bassrelievo, in such :t manner ns to give a. desirable appearance.
To enable others te fully comprehend, make, and use my invention, I have marked the principal parts with distinct letters, and will now give a. detailed description.
Fig. 1 represents the end or frame, which is made of a. single piece of cast iron, :1nd with curved legs, A B, terminating in :L single standard, L, to which the back of the seat is attached.
A little :there the intersection of the legs is an arm, C, under which is a curved brace, D, haring :1. head on its outer front edge, for relieving the flat surface, :1nd the standard L has a. projecting arm, K, under which is a curved brace, H, reaching from the standard to the end of the arm, and connecting with :t short brace, I.
That part of the freine enclosed between the arin K, brace H, and standard L has an S-shapcd scroll, S, in the concave parts of which are smaller scrolls und figures, carved in hnsso-relievo, so as to give the design u. neat and tasty appearance.
The legs A B are ornmnented on their front faces with ribs or beads, as is also the brace G, which, together with the other characteristics shove mentioned, provide n fra-me for the ends of seats and desks which is very simple and ornamental, :1nd also of such :L pattern :is can he easily made by. persons of ordinary skill.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, nnd desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The design lfor a school-desk and sent-frames, substantially as herein set forth and shown.
