UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK W. VAN BERGI'I, OF ROCHESTER, NEIV YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE VAN BERGII SILVER PLATE 00., OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A TEA OR COFFEE POT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,610, dated May 10, 1898.
Application filed March 24, 1898. Serial No. 675,045. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK W. VAN BERGH, a citizen of the United States, residin g at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Tea or Coffee Pots and Like Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a tea or coffee pot, showing my design; Fig. 2, a front elevation of the spout; Fig. 3, a front view of the upper portion of the handle, showing the ornamentation thereon.
Similar reference-n u lnerals indicate similar parts.
My design relates to tea and coffee pots and analogous articles belonging to tea-sets; and the leading feature consists in the peculiar shape and ornamentation of the body, top, handle, and spout.
The body 1 of the article is of spheroidal shape, curving to narrower diameter at top and bottom, and having at the upper portion the ornamental border 2, slightly outwardly flaring at the top and composed of the recurring ornamental section contained between the lines 3 3 and embodying the flower-like ornaments 4 and the scrolls, as shown. The top 5 tapers in a graceful ogee curve toward the upper portion and is there provided with the ornament 6, composed of conventionalized flowers and scrolls in the nature of honeysuckle ornamentation.
7 indicates the handle, curved, as shown, and joined at the upper end to the body, above the greatest diameter thereof, and at the lower end slightly below said diameter, the main or outward portion of the handle 10 being plain,
and at the lower end is provided the section 8, ornamented with the conventionalized leaf or honeysuckle ornament. The upper portion of the handle is ornamented from the highest point down toward the body with the central leaf ornament 9 and the conventionalized flowers and scrolls, as shown, on the sides.
11 indicates the spout, rising from the greatest diameter of the body with a reverse curve and a gradual taper and oval in cross-section, and the extreme upper end is indented and provided on its exterior with the leaf and flower ornamentation shown. The lower portion of the spout is also covered with the ornamentation shown, embodying the central conventionalized honeysuckle-sprays 12, and on the sides the flower-like ornaments 13 and the leaf-sprays 14.
Having thus described my design, what I claim is 1. In a design for a teapot or like article, the body having the shape and the ornamental band or border at the upper portion, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a design for a teapot or like article, the top having the shape and ornamentation, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a design for a teapot or like article, the handle having the shape and ornamentation, substantially as shown and described.
4. In a design for a teapot or like article, the spout having the shape and ornamentation, substantially as shown and described.
5. The design for a teapot or like article, substantiallyas herein shown and described.
FREDERICK W. VAN BERGII.
