WITNESSES |NVE NTOR NITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNEST CAMPBELL, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE HOLMES dz EDIVARDS SILVER COMPANY, OF BRIDGEPORT, CON- NECTICUT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 25,018, dated December 31 8 A li mi {fl a November 21, 1895. Serial No. 569,741. Term of patent '7 years.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ERNEST WV. CAMPBELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and .Ptate of Rhode Island, have invented. and pro luced a new and original Design for Spoons,
Forks, 76. and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
Figure I is a plan view of the upper or obverse side of a spoon embodying my novel design, the outlines of a fork appearing in dotted lines; and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the 3 back or reverse side of a spoon embodying my novel design, the outlines of a fork appearing in dotted lines.
The leading features of my novel design consist of the shape and ornamentation of the handle as herein shown and described. The outlines of the edges at the widest portion of the handle are slightly irregular, and the sides of the shank are straight lines. The widest portion of the handle (indicated by 1) is a short distance from the outer end thereof. The general contour of each edge from the widest portion to the tip is a conveX curve, as at 2, the lines, however, being slightly irregular. The tip is rounded, as at 3. The
general contour of each edge from the widest 3o portion toward the shank is an incline, as at 4, the lines, however, being slightly irregular. The sides of the shank are straight lines, as
5, which incline toward each other slightly in the direction of the bowl. On the obverse 3 5 side near the widest portion is a plain surface, (denoted by 6.) This surface is surrounded, and the remaining portion of the handle proper is covered by conventional rococo ornainentation, (denoted by 7.) Rococo orna- 4o mentation (indicated by S) is also provided on the shank and where the shank joins the bowl.
On the reverse side at the center is a plain surface, (denoted by 9.) This surface is surrounded by conventional rococo ornainenta- 45 tion, (denoted by 10.) The shank is left plain, but is slightly ornamented in rococo style, as
at 11, where the shank joins the bowl.
\Vhat I claim is The design for a handle for spoons, forks, 50 and similar articles substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
