Beit known that I, JOHN F. A. HOORTa cilizen of the United Sbates,residin g at NewYork, in the county of New York and State of New York haxe invented ancl produced a new and orginal Design for Mantels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference be ing had to the accompanying drawing, forming a. part thereof.
The figure of the drawing is an isometric view of the mantel.
The leadng feature of my design conslsts in the design for mantels provided wnh supportng columns havng reotangular pedes tals and fluted eylindrical sh afts and su ppo rting an entablature surmounted by a. shell.
Numeral 1 denotes the mantel shelf which resembles an entablature of the Ionie order supported by columns 2 of the same order.
3, 3, denote the pedestals of the columns. These have considerable heigl1t as eompared with the shafts 4, 4, and impart; to the columns a pleasing effect. The lower part; of eaeh sl1aft is plein and its upper porton is fluted.
The neck 5 is made long as showu and oma,- mented by a rosette supporting festoons.
6 denotes a. panel bonnded above by the entablature and at each end by the.upper por tionsof the columns and having on its lower 3 edge a. beading 7. Tbe panel is ornamented by two rosettes 8 whieh together with vines appear to support festoons of flowers and foliage and an oval wreath. Ths panel ornament; is surmounted by the said vines extend- 5 ing horizontally across the mantel arches formed by Lhe festoons and arranged in erenelated form.
10 represents a back ground wl1ich al; 11 extends above the mantel sl1elf and is pro- 40 vided with a. crenela.ted melding 11.
\Vhat I claim is-- The design for a mantel as shown and deseribed.
