UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS BENFIELD, OF NEWARK, NEN JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A WATCH-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,486, dated April 19, 1892. Application filed latch 17, 1892- Sarlal lilo. 425,369. Torin of patent 7 yam.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS BENFIELD, a subject of Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Newark,in the county of Essex and Stateof NewJersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Watch-Cases, of which the following is aspecification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is a plan view of awatch-case, Showing my design. Fig. 2 is asectional view thereof, taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar view taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
The leading or characteristic feature of my design consists of a series of ribs A and grooves or corrugations B, disposed or arranged as shown in Fig. ],said ribsA occupying one portion of the lid of the ease and the grooves or corrugations l3 occupying the opposite portion. As will be seen by reference to Fig. 1, the ribs A radiate from the center of the case, spreading out into fan shape, and
are convex in cross-section, as illustrated in Fig. 3. The grooves or corrugations B are parallel, as shown in Fig. 1, and concave in eross-section,as shown in Fig. 2. The several portions may, it is manifest, be engraved, chased, or otherwise ornamented, as desired.
It is apparent that many pleasing effects may be obtained with this design by chasing, engraving, or otherwise ornamenting some of the ribs A and corrugations B and leaving others bright, and that also this design is applicable to lockets and other similar articles.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design fora watch-case. as herein shown and described.
