Patented Dec. 29, 1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR J. STONE, OF GARDNER, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO FRANK \V. SMITH, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A SPOON, 84c.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,268, dated December 29, 1891.
Application filed October 29, 1891. Serial No. 110,282. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR J. STONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gardner, in the county of Worcester and State of Mes sachnsetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Handles for Spoons, Forks, Knives, and the Like, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to theaccompanying drawing, showing a handle containing my said design, the handle being for spoons, forks, knives, and the like.
My design consists of a handle of irregular outline, with marginal and shank ornamentation of scroll and conventionalized leaf work, as shown in the drawing and more fully described below.
The shank a curves from near its inner end outwardly to the side projections a a. Beyond projection 0 upon that edge a: of the handle the edge is indented at a, a, a, a, and a and curved by curves a of different lengths to make edge at irregular in outline, as shown. The edge a:' is also of irregular outline, being indented at a, a, and a. and curved by a series of curves at. The upper or outerend of that curve a nearest the buttend of the handle curves inwardly to indentation a", and the upper or outer end of that curve a nearest the butt-end of the handle curves outwardly to projection a. The buttend portion a" of the handle, which is be tween the indentation a. and projection a", is substantially a projection and its outline is irregular. This part a is marginally ornamented by a conventionalized leaf 0., and each side margin of the handle is ornamented with irregular scroll-work a, leaving a plain surface b of irregular outline, which is bounded by the leaf a, marginal scroll-work a", and conventionalized featherwork a" between the marginal scroll-work u), which extends to the projections a. a.
The design for a handle for spoons, forks,
knives, and the like, as herein shown and described.
