SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,472,
dated January 6, 1891.
Application filed November 17, 1890- Berial No. 371,744. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUSTIN F. JACKSON, a citizen of the United States, residingat Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts. have invented and produced a new and original Design for Backs of Brushes, Mirrors, &c., of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying illustration, forming part thereof. I
The figure is a photographic illustration of the back of a. brush or hand-mirror embodying my design.
My design for backs of hair-brushes, handmirrors, 8.10., consists of a paddleshaped outline with waved edges, having a marginal hand a, terminating in scrolls b b at the point of union with the handle. Between these scrolls is a plain shield or oval panel 0, and surmountin g the latter is a bunch of flowers d. Between the flowers d and the upper end of the back is the representation of a grotesque human face 6, merged centrally within and surrounded by arabesque ornamentation. The handle is of a spirally-twisted or roped pattern f, and the end of the handle is covered. with a cap of leaves g.
The leading feature of my design is the grotesque face (2, the bunch of flowers d, and the marginal border terminating in scrolls b b, the handle portion being subordinate and nonessential.
What I claim is- 1. The design for the backs of brushes, handmirrors, &c., as herein shown and described.
2. The design for the backs of brushes,handmirrors, 650., consisting of the ornamentations a b c d e, as herein shown and described.
