WILLIAM IIALEY, OF BEAVER- FALLS, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A BASKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No.18,566, dated August 28. 1888.
Application filed August 3, [888. Serial No.2RLS l4. Term of patent H years.
T all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM HALEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaver Falls, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Basket; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying illustrations, forming a part thereof.
The drawing represents a perspective view a glass basket embodying my design.
The leading feature of my design consists in the shape and ornamentation of the basket,
I5 which shows two similarly designed and rounded halves having a narrowed or contracted portion at the center, from which springs the handle. From the base of the basket projects a flaring base-rim, the design :0 of which conforms to the general shape of the main body.
In the drawing, a represents the baseor bottom of the basket. It is provided with a series of checkered or intersecting lines raised thereon with beveled edges.
b is the body of the basket, and c c are the two rounded halves constituting the body. These halves c c are contracted at their juncture at the center of the basket, (shown at 0 d.) The handle e springs from side to side.
f is the base-rim, which flares outwardly, and g are short legs or rests formed thereon. It may, however, be provided with a plain base.
h are a series of scallops formed on handle 0, and i are ornaments, as shown, embedded in a roughened or frosted design, 1:, on the sides of the handle.
1 represents vertical rib-work formed at the base of the handle, where the glass is thickened to join the contracted sides of the basket. 0 The rounded halves c 0 may be polygonal in shape, if desired.
m is a beaded or rounded work or design, which may extend entirely around the edge of the article.
it are a series of ornamental rosettes formed on the outer sides of the basket, consisting of a radial series of ribs, 1), and a circular rim of head-work, 0, arranged at the outer extremities of the ribs p.
q are a series of vertically-arranged ribsdisposed around the sides or edges of the basket, and r are aserics of beaded work around the base.
g are short legs depending from the base-rim.
t are a series of scallops upon the bottom of the rim.
8 are a series of intersecting raised lines on the base-rim.
My design may be produced in any suitable material.
What I claim is- The design for a basket herein shown and described, consisting of oppositely-enlarged ends, a contracted central portion, and a handle springing from opposite sides of the cen tral portion, substantially as set forth, the whole having the shape and ornamentation shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in 70 presence of two witnesses.
