CHARLES A. BAILEY, OF MIDDLETOW X, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A GONG FOR BELLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16,044, dated April 14,1885.
Application filed February 14, 1885. Term of patent! years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. BAILEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Middletown, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced Designs for Bells; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my design. Fig. 2 is a view of aside elevation of the same,
This invention has relation to designs for bells; and it consists in the novel ribbed form or configuration of the gong or inverted cup or barrel which forms the sounding portion, as hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates the gong or barrel, which is usually provided with a central perforation, B, in its upper portion.
The gong A presents outwardly and downwardly curved ribs C, extending from the center to the rim in regular series, and faces D between these ribs.
The general form of the gong is that of an inverted basin or cup having the ribs and in tervening faces, which are designed to give the gong an attractive appearance. The faces intervening between the ribs are concave from side to side, and the entire lower edge of the gong is on a plane which coincides with the vertical center of the same, being at right angles thereto.
Having described this design, what I claim 1s The design for the gong of a bell, having the series ofontwardly and downwardly curved ribs 0, extending from the center to the rim, the intervening faces D between said ribs, and the lower edge on a plane which coincides with the vertical center, the same being at right angles to each other, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHAS. A. BAILEY.
