NITED STATES PATENT rica.
WILLIAM P. SINNOGK, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSlGNOR TO HIMSELF AND HORACE D. SHERRILL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A FINGER-RING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,790, dated February 21, 1882.
Application filed January 18, 1882. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM P. SINNOOK, of Newark, Essex county, New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Design for Finger-Rings, of which the following is a full,
clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters indicate corresponding :0 parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan viewofmynewly-designed finger-ring. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a front view of the same.
The shanks A of the ring increase in Width on a curved line toward the gem G in the ordinary manner. The shanks are ornamented with a series of circular ridges, a, running completely around the outer surface of the ring, which ridges increase in width toward 2o thege1n,andhaveasemicircularorlikerounded cross-section at the wider parts, so that the ends of these ridges will form a scalloped edge resting against the sides of the gem O, as shown in Fig. 2. The ridges do not run parallel with each other throughout; but at the ends of the shanks these ridges run toward the ends of the gem, the outer ridges having a greater inclination toward the ends of the gem than the middle ridges have. The ends 0 D of the gem-setting are provided with short ridges at, running across the thickness of the gem-setting. On the innersurfaee of the ring the ridges d terminate flush with this inner surface; but the outer ends of these ridges d 5 project slightly from the outer or upper surface of the gem-setting, so that these upper surfaces of the ends D of the gem-setting will be serrated or corrugated, as well as the end surfaces.
Square, oblong, or oval gems can be heldin the ring without changing the main features of my design, and likewise the ridges a may have a uniform projection from the outer surface of the ring or shanks of the same; or the height of projection of the edges a may increase to- 5 ward the ends of the shanks.
In place of being rounded, the upper surfaces of the ridges a and d can be made angular or flattened, if desired.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The herein-described design for fingerrings, consisting of longitudinal ridges increasing in Width toward the ends of the shanks, substantially as set forth.-
2. The herein-described design for fingerrings, consistingoflongitudinal ridges increasing in width toward the ends of the shanks, and inclined or flared toward the opposite ends of the gem, substantially as set forth. 6o
3. The herein-described design for fingerrings, consisting of ridges d, extending across the thickness of the end surfaces of the ends D of the gem-setting, substantially as set forth.
4. The herein-described design for fingerrings, consisting of ridges (1, extending across the thickness of the end surfaces of the ends D of the gcmsetting, the upper ends of these ridges also projecting from the upper or outer surface of the end of gem-setting D, which upper surface is thus serrated or corrugated, substantially as set forth.
