DESIGN FOR THE ORNAMENTATION OF CORSETS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No 1 dated February 1837 Application filed Drcemberl, "$86.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CATIIARINE A. GRIS- woLD, of the city of New York, county and State of New York, and a citizen of the United States, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Corsets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying d rawing, forming part of this specification.

The single figure in the drawing represents a corset in side elevation containing my new design.

The leading and special feature of my new design consists in a. series of ornan'icntal bands or stripes extending each with a curve downwardly over the corset-surface on the front, side, and rear thereof, from the top edge toward the waist-line, and with both extremities of each band or stripe terminating on said top edge, together with a series of ornamental bands or stripes extending each with a curve upwardly over the corset-surface on the front, side, and rear thereof, from the bottom edge toward the waist-line, and with both extremities of each said band or stripe terminating on said bottom edge of the corset.

A represents a corset, which may be in the usual and ordinary general form.

13 B B represent a series of ornamental bands or stripes, each having a curve extending from the top edged the corset downwardly toward the waistline, and with both extremities of each stripe terminating on said top edge of the corset. One of said bands, 13, is arranged, as shown, to pass around and under the breastswell on each side of the corset, and the others of the series range upon the side and rear of the corset from the top edge downwardly.

G C G represent a series of ornamental bands or stripes, each having a curve extending from the bottom edge of the corset over and upon its surface upwardly toward the waist-line, and with both extremities of each band or stripe terminating at said bottom edge of the corset. The bands constituting this series thus range, as shown, over the front, the hip portion, and the rear portion of the lower part of the corset, and the apices of the members or hands of the two series approach each other on opposite sides of or at the waistline of the eorseti I show each series as composed of three described curved bands; but the number in each series may be varied without departure from the essential feature of my design.

\Vhat I claim is- The design for a corset herein described and shown, the same consisting of the corset A, having a series of ornamental bands or stripes, B B B extending each with a curve downwardly over the eorsctsnrfaee on the front, side, and rear thereof, from the top edge to ward the waist-line, and with both extremities of each band or stripe terminating on said top edge, together with a series of ornamental bands or stripes, G 0' G extending each with a curve upwardly over the eorset-surface on the front, side, and rear thereof, from the bottom edge toward the waist-line, and with both extremities of each band or stripe terminating on said bottom edge of the corset.
