UN 1TB STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AGNES IVI. O. SERRUYS AND MABGUERITE M. J. SEE-BUYS, F SPOKANE, WASHINGTON.
CORSET.
assess.
To all whom it "may concern:
Be it known that we, Ac-Nhs M. C. San- RUYS and MARGUEnrrE M. J. SEnRUYs, citizens of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane, State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to corsets, and has for its object to provide certain improvements in the construction of the same as will be hereinafter more definitely pointed out and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a perspective View of one side of the corset, the other side being shown in dotted outline.
The body of the corset is composed of the usual material, and each side of the corset is formed in three sections 1, 2 and 3 united by sewing to each other on the lines t and 5, the line a being at a slight angle to the rear lacing edge 6, while the line 5 is at a more pronounced angle thereto, as shown.
In the front section 3 is a bust gore 7,
while in each of the sections 1 and 2 is a hip gore 8, each of said gores being located entirely within its section intermediate the side edges thereof, and being preferably squared at their inner ends, as shown. In each of the sections are the pockets 9 for the reception of the usual stiffening steels, it being observed that said pockets each lie in its section. By thus forming the corset sides Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 30, 1908.
Patented Nov. 9, 1909. Serial No. 455,525.
in sections it can be seen that variations in size can be readily obtained, for instance, by making the intermediate section 2 wider or narrower, without affecting the contour of the rear and front sections 1 and 3, and without afiecting the gores 7 and 8, which lie each entirely within its section. Furthermore, by providing the two gores 8, one adapted to lie on the anterior and the other on the posterior side of the hip of the wearer, any unsightly bulging at that point is prevented, and the present desired eflect of reduced hips is attained.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A corset, embodying in each side a plurality of stifiened sections united vertically on lines at varying angles to the front and rear edges of the corset side, the intermediate and rear sections being provided each with a hip gore located entirely within its section and adapted to lie on opposite sides of the hip of the wearer.
In testimony whereof, we have hereunto set our hands in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
