Description

BucklasQ IVI TJVESSES DESIGN.
Patented June 21, I881.
I JV VENTOR,
u. nun MoLMWV WM 0.4;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL S. SARGEANT, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A HARNESS-BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,327, dated June 21, 1881.
Application filed February 26, 1881. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL S. SARGEANT, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Harness-Buckles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification- Figure 1 being a top view ofa buckle formed according to my design; Fig. 2, a side edge view of the same; Fig. 3, a side edge view, showing a modified form.
Like letters designate corresponding parts in all of the figures.
The principal distinctive feature of this design is the form ofthe face of the outer end or cross-bar, a, of the buckle. This at its outer edge has a continuous convexly-rounded outline, the curve thereof becoming smaller as it approaches and rounds the corners of the buckle. The inner edge of this face is slightly concave in the middle, approximating to parallelism with the outer curve; but as it approaches the side bars, I) b, of the buckle the concave becomes abruptly smaller, and then terminates inasmall convex curve over each side bar of the buckle, meeting the outer curve in about a semicircle, all substantially as represented in Fig. 1. The front surface or face of this bar a is flat or plane. The side bars, I) b, gradually narrow in nearly-straight lines from the cross-bar a to the back crossbar, c. In the side view or profile of the buckle the back side of the cross-bar a is convex, and the side bars, b b, are nearly straight along the middle for the greater part ot'their length, curving thence concavely forward to the inner outline of the cross-bar a, and convexly to the outer outline of the said crossbar, and similarly curving backward to the back cross-bar, c, all substantially as shown in Fig. 2. The latter curves may be omitted, as in Fig. 3.
I claim as my invention The design for a buckle herein shown and described, consisting of the plane-faced bar at, having the convexly-rounded outer edge, the concavely-rounded inner edge nearly parallel with the outer edge, and the semicircular end edges uniting the said convex and concave curves, substantially as specified.
S. S. SARGEANT.
