DESIGN FOR A HOLDBACK-IRON FOR THILLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,651, dated May 17, 1898.
Application filed March 14,1898. Serial No. 673.869. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE \V. FLETCHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at )Iendon, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented a new and original Design for a lIoldback-Iron for Thills, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for a holdbaclc-iron for thills; and it has for its object to provide a design of this character that shall be both useful and ornamental.
The leading feature of the design resides in a circular split band provided at its lower closed side and at one edge with a downwardlyprojecting crescent-shaped lip.
The minor features of the design reside in the circular band, having at its terminals reduced outturned extensions forming substantially circular loops, and in the crescent shaped lip, being provided with a flat side lying substantially in the plane of one side edge of the band and with a beveled side sloping toward the lower exterior surface of the band.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a holdback-iron for thills embodying the herein-described design. Fig. 2 is asectional View thereof. Fig. 3 is a side elevation thereof.
The numeral 1 designates a circular split band having a flat inner surface and a convexed outer surface. The circular band 1 is provided at its terminals with reduced outturned extensions 2,which form substantially circular loops, and at one edge thereof the said circular split band is provided with a crescent-shaped lip The crescent-shaped lip 3 is provided with a flat side I, lying substantially in the plane of one side edge of the hand, and with an opposite beveled side or face 5, which slopes toward the lower outer face of the band. \Vhile the flat side i of the lip 3 lies substantially in the plane of one side edge of the band, yet such side is inclined slightly forward, as illustrated in Fig. 6 of the drawings.
IVhat I claim is The design for a holdback-iron for thills herein shown and described.
