DESIGN.
H. M. BEBCHER. Carriage Step Pad.
No. 12,079. Patented Dec. 28, |880.
// @afn/n UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY M. BEECHER, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A CARRIAGE-STEP PAD.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Design No. 12,079, dated December 28, 1880.
Application tiled August i6, H580. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, HENRY M. BEECHER, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Carriage-Step Pads, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation or edge view of my uewlydesigned step-pad, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
Carriage-step pads have been heretofore made with a corrugated or wrinkled surface. They have also been embossed with various figures which covered apart of the surface, while other parts were plain, and u. rubber pad for covering an iron step has been made with its upper surface covered by a series of square pyramidal projections having right-angular corners, whiletheopposileside of the pad was plain. A prior patent also shows a design for stair-plates having the same square pyramidal projectlons with intersecting ribs upon its upper surface and the under surface of the converse form.
The leading feature of my design consists in ornamenting the upper surface of the steppad by covering it with adjoining series of diamond-shaped p yramidal projections. I also form the under surface of the said pad theconverse of the upper surfacethat is, with adjoining series of diamond-shaped pyramidal depressions which substantially cover said under surface.
A represents the step-pad B, the ordinary shank thereof. The upper surface of the pad is in thc form of adjoining serles a aaaa aaa of diamond-shaped pyramidal projections, as shown in Figs. l and 2. The under surfaceis ot' the converse forni, except such portion as is occupied by the end ofthe shank B.
In some cases,in the practical manufacture of steps all ofthe pyramidal projections may not be perfectly formed and will appear truncated; but I desire to have each projection come practically to a point.
I claiml. The design for al carriage-step pad herein shown and described, in which the upper surface is ornainented by and consists of adjoining series of diamond-shaped pyralnidal projection's.
2. The design for a carriagestep pad herein shown and described, in which the upper sur face consists of adjoining series of diamondshaped pyramidal projections and the under surface is of the converse form.
HENRY MOSES BEECHER.
