BEST AVAILABLE CGPY DESIGN.
L. KAUPMA l I N & M.HERZ. Cigar-Box.
No. 11,270. Patented July I, 1879.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEOPOLD KAUFMANN AND MAX HERZ, OF NEW YORK,
DESIGN FOR CIGAR-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 11,270, dated July 1, 1879; application filed May 15, 1879. [Term of patent 3% years] To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, LEoPoLD KAUFMANN and MAX HERZ, of the city of New York, in the county and State .of New York, have invented a new and original Design for a Cigar- Box, of which the following is a specification.
Figure l is a perspective View of a cigarbox embodying our design, showing the box closed. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same box, showing it opened.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
This invention relates to a new shape of cigar-box, the same being composed of a closed bottom, four upright side pieces, and four triangular top pieces, of which two triangles have a longer base and shorter perpendicular than the other two, as hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings, the letter A represents a rectangular box of the shape of an ordinary cigar-box. The same is composed of a rectangular closed bottom of four side pieces, I) c d e, and of four triangular boards, 13 O D E,
hinged, respectively, to the front, the sides, and back of the box. The triangles G D have a shorter base and longer perpendicular than the triangles B E, and are in fact acute-angled isosceles triangles, whereas the triangles B E are obtuse-angled isosceles triangles. When folded together, as in Fig. 1, the four triangles will abut and constitute a complete cover. When the box is opened these triangular pieces are folded apart, as in Fig. 2, imparting to the box a peculiar and novel appearance.
We claim as our invention- The design for a box, the same being composed of a rectangular bottom, four uprights, b c d c, and of four triangular pieces, B, O, D and E, of which two are acute-angled isosceles triangles, and the other two obtuse-angled isosceles triangles, substantially as shown.
