Specification of Letters Patent.
l'atented Mar. 7, i211.
Application filed December t?, 19H). Serial No. 595,996.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, FRANK J. Kennin-nis: a citizen of the United States, residing at Calumet, in the county of Houghton and State of lvlichigan7 have invented certain new and useful improvements in Currency- Holders, of wnich the following is a speciiication7 reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in iiling devices and particularly to improvements in devices having for their purpose to file and hold currency in banks; and Aan object of this invention is to provide a device which will enable currency in bank-cages to be handled conveniently and expeditiously.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device by means of which the eurrency may be kept as compactly as possible within the limited space available in bankcages and bank-vaults.
it third object of this invention is to provide a device by means of which the currency will be securely held and be protected from being torn or wrinkled.
ln the drawings illustrating the principle of this invention and the best mode now known to me of applying that principle, Figure 1 is a plan view of my new currency holder; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the saine; 3 is a section on the line Ami-'lr of F ig. 2 and Fig. tis a detail which shows the follower-plate in holding position.
The frame a of the device is made by bending a steel rod into til-shape and then turning up the ends Z) of the side-bars c. To these ends is fastened an abutment-plate d which is inclined toward the base e of the frame, the inclination being about ten degrees from the vertical, as is best shown in F 2. Mounted slidably upon the sidebars e of the frame a is a follower-plate f which is provided with a pair of legs g5 the lower or bas-e ends of which are formed with holes 7L. The axes of the holes 7L are inclined at an angle of about ten degrees to the axes of the side-bars o, which pass through these holes. F rom this construction it results that the follower-plate is mounted free to tilt on the side-bars c. When the follower-plate is thrown toward the abutment-plate Z (see dotted lines in Fig. 2) the follower-plate is released so that it may be slid along the sidebars o toward or from the abutment-plate d. When the follower-plate is in holding position (that is7 thrown away from the abutment-plate), it is still inclined to the latter, the distance between the bases of these plates being then greater than the distance between their upper edges. This is an important feature of my invention, since it insures that the currency will be tirmly held in a sort of .vedge-shaped mass To the follower-plate f is fastened a card holder z' in which a card may be placed having' written upon it the naine of the teller and the amount of the bundle of currency held between the plates f, d. rihe base c of the frame serves as a bail or handle by which the device may be rapidly handled and convenient-ly carried.
)ue to the inclination of the plates f, l there is no danger of the currencys falling out, while the latter is being carried in the device from the bank-vault to the tellers cage. The device permits of storing a greater amount of currency in a bank-vault than can otherwise be done safely and couveniently. The device itself occupies very little space, is simple in construction, comparatively cheap in manufacture and etticient in use. if it be desired, the base e may be used as means for hanging' the device from overhead or upon the wall, whereby economy of space may still further be obtained.
The side-bars c and the base ends of the legs g are made of hardened steel to withstand the wear to which these parts are in use subjected.
l claim:
l. A device of the character described consisting of a U-shaped frame having sidebars; an abutment-plate which is fastened to the ends of the latter; and a follower'- plate having a pair of legs formed with holes the axes of which are inclined to the axes of said side-bars, which side-bars pass through said holes, whereby said followerplate is mounted slidably and free to tilt upon said side-bars; said abutment-plate and follower-plate being in holding position inclined toward each other, whereby the distance between the bases of said plates in holding position is greater than the distance between their upper edges.
2. A device of the character described consisting of a frame formed of a rod bent into tJ-shape; an abutment-plate which is fastened to the ends of said rod and which is inclined toward the base end of said frame; and a follower-plate having a pair of legs frame serving as a bail or handle by which to carry the device.
ln witness whereof l heieunto set my hand at Calumet, h/liohigan, this third day of December, 1910, in the presence of the l5 two undersigned witnesses.
FRANK J. KOHLHAAS.
formed with holes the axes of which are inclined to the sides of said U-shaped frame, which sides pass through said holes, whereby said follower-plate is mounted slidably and free to tilt upon said sides; said plates being in holding position inclined toward each other, whereby the distance between the I bases of the same in holding position is;
