SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,166, dated December 10, 1889.

Be it known that I, JOSEPH GEIsENHEIME of the city, county, and State of New York, a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'licket-I-Iolders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved device or receptacle for holding a number of tickets-such as ferrytickets, car-tickets &c.in such a manner that they can easily be removed from said receptacle, and which receptacle can be carried conveniently and can easily be filled with tickets in case all have been removed.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts and details, as will be fully described hereinafter, and finally pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved ticketholder Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same, on a larger scale, showing it open. Fig. 3 is a vertical trans verse sectional view 011 the line a: a, Fig. 2.

The receptacle A and its cover 13 are made of a single continuous piece of spring sheet metal, which is bent at one end of the receptacle to form the spring-hinge C, so that said receptacle, its cover, and the spring-hinge are made of a single continuous piece of sheet metal. The cover is provided at its sides with downwardly-projecting flanges D, which are provided at the swinging end of the cover with wings E, having indentations F in the inner sides, said indentations serving to receive projections G on the outer surface of the sides of the receptacle, so that when the cover is pressed down the projections, G can snap into the recesses F, and thus hold the cover in closed position. That end of the box opposite the one provided with the springhinge C has a recess in its top edge, which recess forms a slot H in the end of the receptacle, through which slot at single ticket can pass. The ticketsJ rest upon a follower-plate K of the size of the box, which follower-plate ispressed upward by springs L, arranged below it. The cover B of the box is provided with a slot or longitudinal thumb-opening M. Ari mg or eyeN is provided on the spring-hinge of the box, by means of which ring or eye the box can be secured to a chain-for example, a key-chain-or can be attached to a keyring or to a watch-chain. \Vhen the box is opened--that is, when the cover Bis raised-a number of tickets are placed upon the springpressed follower K, and then the cover is pressed down and is locked in place by the proj ections G engaging the recesses F in the wings E. \Vhen it is desired to remove a ticket, the thumb is placed over the aperture M, so as to be in contact with the uppermost ticket, and the said uppermost ticket is pushed out in the direction of its length through the slot H, andis then seized and withdrawn. As the tickets are successively removed the springs L press the follower-plate K upward, until all 70 the tickets have been removed, when the cover is released and immediately snaps upward, 'thus permitting of filling the recep acle again.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A receptacle having a cover and spring hinge, all made of a single continuous piece of sheet metal, the cover having wings extending down at the sides of the receptacle, which wings have recesses for receiving projections on the sides of the receptacle, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a ticket-receptacle having a cover and spring-hinge made of a single continuous piece of .sheet metal, of a follower-plate in the receptacle and springs for pressing the follower-plate u pward, the cover being provided with a fingeropening and the receptacle being provided with a slot at the top edge of its outer end piece, substantially as set forth.
