UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LABEL-DISPENSING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 29, 1905.
Application filed September 10, 1904. Serial No. 223,977-
To all whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, GEORGE H. BRowN,a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Sheridan, in the county of Sheridan and State of Wyoming, have invented new and useful Improvements in Label-Dispensing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to label-holders, and more especially to that class of holders employed for holding physicians or pharmacists bottle-labels; and the object of the invention is to provide a device from which a label may be extracted by hand and a similar label allowed to take the place of the extracted one.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for automatically pushing these labels into position.
Still further objects of the invention are means whereby the device may be supplied with a fresh lot of labels and means for looking the bottom in position.
' Further objects will appear hereinafter and the novel features be pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure lis a front perspective view. Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view. Fig. 3 is a central transverse section of the device, and Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view.
Referring more specially to the drawings, 1 represents the body of the device of rather elongated box-like formation, which may be made of any suitable materialsuch as sheet tin, copper, galvanized iron, or the likeand may be in dimensions to suit the labels which are to be held.
The body 1 is provided with a top 2, secured to the body 1 in any suitable manner, and is provided with a cut-away portion 3, which corresponds in shape to a cut-away portion 4c in the body 1 and forms in all an opening which allows the labels to be grasped by Within the body 1 is a followerplate 5, adapted to bear against the under side of the labels, and to the bottom of the follower-plate is secured a spiral spring 6, which is also secured to the bottom 7 in any suitable manner, and pivoted to the bottom in the center is a button 8, adapted to engage brackets 9. which project inwardly from each side of the interior of the body. The button adapted to be engaged by a nail or other suitable supporting device.
In operation the labels are inserted through the bottom of the device and the follower inserted in the body edgewise until past the brackets 9, when it will assume the position shown in Fig. 3. The bottom is also inserted sidewise until past the brackets 9, when it is allowed to assume the position shown in Fig. 3. At this time the button 8 is turned so as to engage the brackets 9, preventing the bottom from being disengaged from the brackets. As each label is removed the follower 5 forces the remaining labels to the top of the box, and thereby presents them for removal.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A receptacle for dispensing labels comprising a box-like body having one end open and a label-dispensing opening in one side at the other end, a bottom adapted to enter the open end of said body in a direction transverse to its plane, means for supporting said bottom Within said body, and a spring between said bottom and the labels.
2. A receptacle for dispensing labels comprising a box-like body having a dispensingopening, a follower adapted to engage the labels in said body, a spiral spring secured to said follower, a bottom secured to said spiral spring, brackets projecting within the body,
GEORGE H. BROWN.
