Be it known that I, CHARLES N. BARTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Ticket-Holder, of which the following is a specication, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

This invention relates to aI container for card-board tickets and more parti-cularly for tickets that are 'commonly used in the payment of fares on street cars, the invention having reference more particularly to a ticket-holder that is: suitable tobe carried in the pocket of a passenger or Ain a handbag. v

An object of the invention is to provide a ticket-holder of the above-mentioned char'- acter that shall be so constructed as to be simple and reliable and be adapted to be held and operated in one hand, so as to enable passengers when carrying articles in one hand to readily produce a ticket for passage by means of the other hand. Another object is to provide a ticket-holder that shall be so constructed as to accommodate a large number of tickets and eject the tickets without failure fro-m either a large or a small pack thereof. A further object is to provide a ticket-holder that shall be adapted to be adjusted without requiring a tool or instrument for the purpose.

With the aboveanentioned and other objects in View,` the invention consists in a ticket-holder having certain novel features of construction and an improved ejector; the invention consisting further in the parts and combinations and arrangements of parts as hereinafter particularly described and further defined in the accompanying claim.

Referring to the drawings,-Figure l is a' perspective view of the improved ticket- -holder with` a ticket projecting therefrom.

Fig. 2is a rear end view of the ticket-holder. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional View of the ticket-holder approximately central thereof. Fig. 4 is a transverse section approximately on the line'IV-i-IV of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a perspective View of the improved ejector, and Fig. 6 is a top plan of the holder case with its door partially open.

Similar reference characters on the different gures of the drawings indicate like parts or features of construction herein referred to.

A practical embodiment of the invention comprises a `box-like case which is most cheaply made of sheet metal suitably bent to form corners, the case comprising a bottom l, sides 2 and 3, a top composed of two portions 4 and 5 formed of the end portions lof the sheet and suitably'joined together, as

by electric welding or soldering, and also a front end 6 formed integrally with one end of the bottom 1 secured between and to the sides 2 and 3, the end being slightly less in height than the sides so as to provide a slot i adjacent to the top of the case from which to deliver the tickets one at a time. opposite end of the bottom 1 has hinge memj bers S and 9`thereon that are provided with 14: which has a hinge member 15 that is connected to the hinge pin 10, the door being fitted between the sides 2 and 3 and also between the bottom and the top of the case. The middle of the top ofthe door is provided with a projection lthat normally extends into the recess 11 and it has an elastic clasp 17 thereon that extends flatwise upon the top of the case. Theclasp has an upwardly-bulged portion 18 to receive the pro-- j ection 12 to hold thedoor in closed position, and the clasp has an upwardly-extending end portion 19 to be engaged by a finger of the operator to release the clasp lin order to open the door. A guide plate 20 is arranged upon the top of the case andcovers the slot 13. The guide plate is provided with a knob 21 having a base collar 22 that is seated upon the guide plate and preferably secured thereto," the knob having a squared shank 23 that extends through the guide plate and also through the slot 13, the shank being arranged to slide in the slot longitudinally of the case and prevent rotation of the guide plate.r The shank has an extension 2li to which an ejector plate 25 is secured so as to operate against the under side of the top of the case, the ejector plate having an aperture 26 to receive the shank extension. ejector plate has tw'o elastic lingers 27 and 28 on the ends of which are pointed teeth 29 and 30 respectively to engage a ticket when the ejector plate is mevedtowardtneslow, the teeth extending slightly downwardand-A toward the end 6 of the case, so that they slide upon the ticket when moved in the reverse direction.-

A collapsible helical spring is employed` theendportion y33 `of the larger coil beingy arranged in proximity to the front end 6 of the case. A'follower plate 34 is permanently securedto the larger coil of the spring, .the platebeing butl slightly smaller than the bottom or top of the case, and its rear'end portionhasia downwardly extendingl curved guide 35 which serves to guide the tickets upon the'follo'werplate when insertingythe tickets into the case andalso constitutes a finger.V hold for withdrawing the follower plate when desired from the case. The larger coil of the spring Ahas a bearing with the middlefportionof the follower plate, and the end portion 33 bears against the forward portion of'the follower platead=jacent to the front 6 so as to exertforce to always push up the forward end of theffollower plate with slightly greaterforce than that exerted under vthe middle portion 'of the plate.- A package of tickets 36, 36 is supported upon the follower plate and the uppermost one 'of the tickets is always pressed upward against the ejector while the forward end of the ticket is pressed against the top of the case adjacent to theslot 7 In practical use the passenger holds ythe case in one hand and with the thumb of thehand pushesthe knob 21 forward with the result that the teeth of theejectorengage the uppermost ticket and push it partially out ofthe slot 7. The knob may be quicklyv retracted if desired and again pushed forward with the result that the ticket is further projected and if then presented to t-he ticket takerl the latter may readily withdraw the ticket from the case; orv the passenger may repeatedly operate the knob until the ticket is-completely ejected from the case. After the uppermost ticket has been deliveredthe package of tickets is automatically elevated to 'permit the delivery of the` nextsucceedingticket. In some cases the case may be filled with :a large 'number of tickets which in the course of time may over-tax the spring and slightly impair its usefulness which however may readily be restoredxin a well known manner, the followerplate 34 and the spring being withdrawn from the case after opening the door 14, after which the spring may be drawn apartl t0 increase its effective length, after which`vthe parts are again inserted into proper position in the case. The adjustment may be desirable when comparatively few tickets are to 'be subsequently placed -in the holder in order that they maybe pushed upward with sufficient force to bring the tickets successively against the ejector to insure proper action of the latter.

Having thus'described the invention, what is claimed as newis- In a ticket-holder of the character described, the combination with a case bottom and sides and a front end and also a top extending above the front end at a distance therefrom, the bottom and the top beingl each'equal in length with each of the sides,

the middle portion of said top having a c relatively short guide slot therein, of a knob shank movable in said slot and having an extension on its inner end that is diametrically smaller than the body of the shank, an ejector plate secured on said extension and having two long elastic fingers thereon that are supported at all times relatively nearer to said front end than to the opposite end of said top, each linger having` a tooth thereon'extending downwardly toward said front end, a guide plate on said top thatis appreciably longer than said slot and Constantly covering the slot, the guide plate receiving a portion of said shank, a knob rigid on said shank and having a portion bearing upon said guide plate, a coil spring on said bottom adjacent to said front end, and a follower plate between said sides that is relatively shorter in length than said top and extending at one end to said front end of the case, the portion of said follower plate adjacent to said front end being secured to the top of said spring, the opposite4 end of said follower plate extending downwardly toward said bottom.
