IINITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JESSE O. GARDNER, 0F MASSILLON, OHIO.
CAR-TICKET AND CARD HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jnssn O. GARDNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Massillon, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Car-Ticket and Card Holders; and I do hereby declare the fol lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in car ticket and card holders, and has for its object to provide a device adapted to carry a number of cards and deliver them one at a time when so desired.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of which the body portion will be stamped out of one piece of sheet metal and thereby cheapen the manufacture and simplify the construction.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a device having a means to indicate when a supply of cards or car tickets has been exhausted.
With the above, and other objects in view, I will now proceed to describe my invention in the annexed specification and drawings, in Which,
Figure 1 shows the blank used in the manufacture of my improved car ticket holder. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the complete device showing a number of cards inserted therein, the uppermost of which is slightly ejected and in a position for removal. Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 33 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a top plan view of my improved device.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, 1 indicates generally the body portion of my improved car ticket holder consisting of the bottom 2 and the upturned sides 3. A back 4: is provided at one extremity of the body portion 2 and is made integral therewith, the said back being extended to form the top 5 which is adapted to fold over the body portion 1 and engage the sides 2 thereof by means of the flaps 6. Extending longitudinally from this top 5 I preferably provide a tongue 7 which is adapted to fold down and form a front panel, as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
The sides 3 are preferably slit, as shown at 8, to form the tongues 9 which are adapted to be bent over to form guides to limit the upper movement of the top-most card,
Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 749,949.
as clearly shown in Fig. 1. Extending longitudinally from the bottom 2 and integral therewith I preferably provide a front panel 10 which is shghtly shortened with relation to the tongues 9 to form the slot 11 through which the card is adapted to be ejected when my device is in use. Intermediate the ends of the sides 3 and near the upper edge there of I provide apertures 12 through which the axle of a friction roller'is adapted to extend, the use of which will be more fully described hereinafter.
In the back 4: and near the upper extremity thereof I preferably provide a slot 13 through which the cards are adapted to be inserted when it is desired to refill the card holder. The top 5 is preferably slitted, as shown at lt, to form upwardly curved guards l5 which'are adapted to protect the toothed wheels of the friction roller. A friction roller 16 having the ends of the shaft 17 journaled in the apertures 12 of the sides 3 is provided around its outer surface with knurling, as shown at 18. Suitably fixed to the ends of this roller 16 I provide toothed wheels 19 which are adapted to engage the uppermost card and eject the same from the interior of the card receptacle. Intermediate the wheels 19 and the side walls 3 I preferably provide knobs 20 which are adapted to hold both ends of the friction roller substantially the same distance from the sides 3 of the ticket receptacle.
A plate 21 is slidably mounted within the said ticket receptacle and adapted to be pressed upwardly by means of a leaf spring 22 by means of which plate the uppermost ticket, as shown at 23, is held in engagement with the toothed wheels, 19. The tongues 9 are extended over the uppermost ticket, as clearly shown in Fig. 4, and are shortened so as to form an opening 24: by means of which it will be possible to ascertain if the supply of tickets within the case is exhausted.
In operation, when it is desired to use my new and improved ticket or card holder, the ticket or card is inserted through the aperture 13 formed in the back of the receptacle and pushed forward beneath the wheels 19 until the entire length of card has been inserted. This operation is continued until the desired number of cards are forced into the ticket holder. When it is desired to remove a card therefrom, a slight revolution of the friction roller 16 will cause the toothed wheels 19 to engage the uppermost card and force the end of the same outward through the slot 11 formed between the inwardly projecting tongues 9 and the front panel 10 from which position it can be very" easily removed. When the supply of cards or tickets is exhausted the same will be shown upon glancing through the aperture 24 as the ends of the cards project beneath the tongues 9, and it will be clearly seen upon referring to the drawings that the exhaustion of the supply may be easily and quickly ascertained.
While in the foregoing I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I wish it to be understood that I may change the specific arrangement of parts without in any way departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is 1. In a card or ticket holder, a body portion, a back extending from said body portion and integral therewith, the said back having a slot near its upper extremity, a top formed integral with the outer extremity of said back, flaps formed laterally on Copies of this patent may be obtained for said top, a front wall fixed to the body portion, tongues extending from the sides over the front wall in spaced relation thereto, and means intermediate the ends of the said ticket holder to eject the topmost ticket.
2. A ticket holder comprising a front, a bottom, a back having a slot near the upper extremity thereof, the said back extending substantially parallel with the front, a top formed integral with said back and extending parallel with the bottom, a tongue integral with said top and extending downwardly for a limited distance parallel with the back, sides having tongues thereon and extending at substantially right angles thereto, said tongues being adapted to coact with the first mentioned tongue and front to form a slot between the said front and the tongues, and means on the interior of said ticket holder to eject a ticket therefrom.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
