Description

J. R. BALLENTINE.
TlCKET HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED 1AN.2I. 1915.
Patented Jan. 30, 1917.
JOHN R. BALLENTINE, 0F TOLEDO, OHIO.
TICKET-HOLDER.
Application filed January 21, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jenn It. BALLENTINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Tmprovements in Ticket-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ticket holders of that type which is adapted to be carried in the pocket and from which a ticket can be ejected by thumb pressure.
The device comprises a holder in which two different kinds of tickets can be carried, and either kind of which can be dispensed from the end of the holder, one at a time as desired. Or one side may be used for tickets and the other for postage stamps.
A further object of the invention is to simplify and cheapen the cost of manufacture, by using only two or three parts, construct ed and assembled in a novel manner, two of the parts being substantially identical.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the holder. Fig. 2 is a plan view of one of the blanks from which the holder is made. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a spring used in the holder. Fig.4 is a longitudinal section of the holder.
Referring specifically to Figs. 1 to 4t of the drawings, the casing of the holder is formed of two pieces of sheet metal, one of which is shown in Fig. 2 and is indicated at 6. This blank is stamped in the form shown, and has a thumb opening 7, a filling opening 8, two side flanges 9 and an end flange 10. These flanges are bent or struck up on the lines 11, at right angles, and the casing is formed by assembling two of the blanks in reverse relation with a flange 10 at each end, and the flanges 9 lapping'each other, these two flanges being spotted, soldered or riveted together as indicated at 12, to hold the two parts together.
The Z-shaped spring 13 is placed in the holder before the case is assembled and it is properly made to permit the insertion of two packs of tickets through the openings 8 on the opposite sides, and the spring holds the packs against the top and bottom respectively. They can then be slipped out one at a time from either side through the opening 14, which is produced by making Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. so, iair.
Serial No. 3A6? the flange 10 slightly narrower than the side flanges 9, whereby a slot is left at each end of the holder.
The invention isnot limited to the exactconstruction shown as for example the openings 7 and 8 could be omitted from one side of easing, making it a single ticket holder, or other modifications may be made within the scope of the following claims.
I claim 1. A ticket holder comprising a casing formed of two similar parts secured together, each part having side flanges which are lapped when the parts are assembled, and an end flange of slightly less width than the thickness of the casing, forming a slot at the end of the casing, each part also having an opening to permit finger pressure on a ticket in the casing, and a spring within the casing, adapted to hold such ticket against the wall of the casing and in line with the slot.
2. A double ticket holder comprising a casing made of two similar parts, each part having a thumb opening and also having two side flanges and one end flange, the side flanges of the two parts being fastened together, and the end flange being of slightly less width than the thickness of the casing, whereby a slot is formed at each end of the casing, and a spring within the casing adapted to hold two packs of tickets against said parts, with a ticket of each pack in line with. one of the slots.
8. A ticket holder comprising a box formed of two similar parts, each part having a finger opening and also having two. side flanges 9 and an end flange 10, said side flanges being lapped and fastened together, and each end flange being of less width than the thickness of the box, whereby a slot is formed in each end of the box, and a spring within the box adapted to hold a pack of tickets against each of said parts, with the outer ticket in line with one of the slots.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN R. BALLENTINE.
