CARD-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 19, 1909.
Patented Oct. 19, 1909.
Serial No. 484,507.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN C. A. FITCH, J r., a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Card-Gases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to card cases, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a card case from which the cards may be delivered singly by the movement of a roller actuated by a milled wheel projecting slightly above the case.
Another object of the invention is to provide a card case of simple construction in which provision is made for delivering the cards singly from the case by means of a roller bearing upon the upper surface of a pack of cards and a spring bearing upon the lower side of the package of cards.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,-
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a card case made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section of the card case.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral. 1 designates the sides of the case; 2 is the rear end, and 3 is the front end of said case. The top 4 of the case may be formed integral with the sides and ends, said top being oppositely inclined from a central point to provide room underneath the central enlargement 5 for a roller 6. A slot 7 is formed in the front end 3 of the case, and the top 4 is provided with spring tongues 8 cut from the body of the top and bent down in the slot 7 to insure the feeding of the cards singly from the case. The roller 6 is journaled at one end in one side of the case, the opposite end being journaled in a partition 9 which extends longitudinally of the case. J ournaled on the end of the shaft 10 of the roller 6 is a milled wheel 11, said wheel being disposed in the space between the partition 9 and one of the outer walls 1 of the case. The milled wheel 11 projects through a slot 12 in the top 4 of the case.
The bottom 13 is hinged at 14: to the end 2 of the case, while the opposite end of the bottom 13 is provided with an indentation 15 adapted to engage a similar indentation 16 formed in the end 3. A bow spring 17 is secured to the hinged bottom 13 by means of rivets 18. The spring 17 is bent upward at its ends and curved as shown at 20 to normally bear against the underside of a pack of cards 21.
The operation of my invention may be briefly described as follows: The bottom 13 is swung on its hinge 14c, and the package of cards or tickets 21 is placed in the case, after which the bottom 13 is closed and held in such condition by' the indentations 15 and 16. When it is desired to deliver a card the slight movement of the milled wheel 11 by passing the thumb or finger over the same will project a card through the slot 7 so that it may be easily withdrawn with the thumb and finger.
My invention is simple in construction and operates efiiciently for its purpose.
I claim 1. A card case the top of which is provided with a central enlargement, a roller mounted centrally in the case, a milled wheel connected to the projecting end of the shaft of said roller, said Wheel projecting through the top of the case, anda hinged bottom having a spring connected thereto to bear at its ends against the bottom of a package of cards.
2. A card case provided with a top having a central enlargement, a partition in the case, spring lips formed upon one end. of said top, said case having a slot in one end through which the cards may be delivered, and a milled wheel for rotating the roller for delivering the cards.
3. A card case provided with a partition, a roller mounted in the case and provided with a central shaft, a milled wheel secured to one end of said shaft between the partition and the outer wall of the case, said wheel projecting through a slot in the top of the case, and a hinged bottom provided with a spring for bearing against the underside of the cards.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
