S. WOLERSTEIN.
GOMBINED MATCH SAFE AND TICKET HOLDER. No. 413,006. Patented Oct. 15, 1889.
f2 menial: MM i hwzzz' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SOLOMON VVOLERSTEIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED MATCH-SAFE AND TICKET-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 413,006, dated October 15, 1889.
Application filed December 4:, 1888. $en'a1No. 292,641. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SOLOMON W'oLnRsrmN, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new anduseful Improvement in a Combined Match-Safe and Ticket-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My improvement relates to a combined match-safe and ticket-holder, in which the matches are contained within a box Or receptacle and the tickets are contained within a pocket upon the exterior of the match-safe, which pocket is movable away from and toward the match-safe and exerts a yielding pressure upon the tickets contained within it, so as to hold them against the side of the matchsafe and prevent their accidental displacement.
I will describe in detail a match-safe and ticket-holder embodying my improvement, and then point out the novel features in the claims.
In the accompanying'drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a match-safe and ticket-holder embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line a: .00, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an end view, the cover for the matchsafe being open. Figs. 4:, 5, and 6 are details of construction. I
A designates the match safe. It has an open end provided with a cover A, acutated by a spring a in the usual manner, and retained when closed by a spring-catch a.
B designates the pocket for tickets. This pocket is provided with side portions 12 and one end portion 1?. When the pocket is in position upon the match safe, the portions 1) I) extend through a suitably-formed slot b formed in one side of the match-safe and ad jacent to the edgesand one of the ends thereof. Upon the pocket B are formed lips I), which, as shown, are struck up from the metal of which the pocket is formed. Theselips, when the pocket is in position on the match-safe, are upon the outside of the match-safe and may be grasped to move the pocket bodily outward, in order to facilitate the insertion of the tickets within the pocket. Upon the sides of the pocket, and, as shown, secured to lips I), also struck up from the metal of the pocket, are springs 19, shown as flat and having upturned ends, which ends, when the pocket is in position on the match safe, bear upon the inner surfaces of portions h of the match-safe which are between the slot 6 and the side edges of the match-safe. When the pocket B is moved outwardly by grasping the lips 5 it is so moved against the resistance of the springs b and when the grasp upon the lips b is removed the springs operate to return the pocket to its normal position, and thus operate to press the tickets firmly against the side of the match-safe and to retain them until it is desired to remove them. This latter may be done, of course, by again moving the pocket B outwardly. I prefer to inclose the sides I) and end 2) of the pocket, together with the springs 12 so that the interior of the matchsafe will present a substantially smooth surface, and the movement of the pocket will not interfere with the matches contained in the match-safe. For this purpose I employ an inner jacket D, provided with side walls cl, and, as shown, with an end Wall d as well as a bottom piece (1 This jacket is of such width only that when inserted in the matchsafe the side pieces of the pocket B and the springs 19 will be contained between the side walls cl of the jacket and the edge walls of the match-safe. Upon the side walls cl of the jacket are outwardlyturned lips d which lips extend to the edge walls of the match-safe when the jacket is in position, and thus wholly close the spaces between the jacket and the edge walls of the match-safe. This is shown more clearly in Fig. 5. By this arrangement the interior of the match-safe is caused to present a substantially smooth surface. The jacket D may be secured within the matchsafe by means of solder. I
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-= 1. The combination, with a match-safe, of a pocket for tickets upon the exterior thereof made separate from the match-safe, said pocket having side portions extending into the interior of the match-safe, and springs for forcing the pocket toward the match-safe, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with a match safe, of a pocket for tickets upon the exterior thereof made separate from the match-safe and hav ing side portions extending into the interior of the match-safe, springs for forcing the pocket toward the match-safe, and a jacket Within the match-safe,.in which said springs 5 are contained, substantially as specified.
3. The combination, With a match-safe, of the pocket B, having portions extending into the interior of the match-safe, springs b and the jacket D, provided With lips dflsubstam tially as specified.
SOLOMON VVOLERSTEIN.
