TICKET AND STAMP HOLDER.
No. 404,584. Patented June 4, 1889.
wue wboz Y N. PETERS mmwumo m hcr, Wanhmglnn 0 c4 LV-btmeooea UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED \VILLIAMSON, OF CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
TICKET AND STAMP HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 404,584, dated June 4, 1889. Application filed February 5 1889. Serial No. 298, 709. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALFRED WILLIAMSON, acitizen of Great Britain, residing at Concord, in the county of Merrimac and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ticket and Stamp Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a simply-constructed box for carrying tickets or postage-stamps, and from which they may be conveniently removed singly by the movement of a thumb or finger.
The invention will be clearly understood by reference to the following specification and claims, and to the accompanying drawings, forming an inseparable part thereof, of which- Figure 1 is a perspective View showing one form for constructing my improved box. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of one of my improved cases, having three compartments in which stamps of different ratio may be insorted; and Fig. 3 is a perspective View of a box containing a single compartment and having a combination top and end cover.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
My improvements apply equally as well to boxes containing single, double, or three or more compartments, as shown.
The top A and bottom B are connected by perpendicular sides 0, the said top having an opening a in its front end, for a purpose to be hereinafter explained.
The back of the box may also be perpendicular, and this is provided with a hinged cover cl, adapted to be readily opened for the convenient insertion of tickets or stamps. When desired, the box may be made of sufficient length to contain stamps of different ratio, and partitions c be secured therein to properly divide the several compartments.
The top A is preferably made flat, and the front end of the bottom B is curved upward to a point adjacent to the top A, by which means the slot E at the front of the box is formed, through which the stamps may be extracted one by one in the following manner: A gentle pressure of either thumb or finger through the opening a, first downward and then outward, forces the uppermost stamp or ticket contained in the box out through said slot E, and should the box be filled with stamps one stamp or ticket only can be extracted at one time; but each will be readily forced out in its turn until none remain, the
object of the curved bottom being to bring the edge of each stamp or ticket in close proximity to the slot E.
As an additional protection against moisture reaching the interior of the box in case it should be carried in the pocket, a cover D maybe hinged to the top or either side, upon which may be formed the end cover (I, as in Fig. 3.
Having described my improvement, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A ticket or stamp holder consisting of a box or case having vertical sides and back, the latter being open, a flat top having a curvilinear opening at its front, a curved bottom converging to a point adjacent with the front edge of said top, whereby a slot is formed for the extraction of a single ticket or stamp, and a hinged cap for normally closing the open back of said box or case, all substantially for the purpose set forth.
2. A ticket or stamp holder consisting of a box or case having vertical sides and back, thelatter being open, a flat top having a curved opening at its front, a curved bottom converging to a point adjacent with the front edge of said top for the extraction of a single ticket or stamp, and a hinged cap for normally closing the open back, and the curvilinear opening in the flat top of said box or case.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALFRED WILLIAMSON.
