NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FERDINAND STRAUSS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
POCKET POSTAL-STAMP AND TICKET HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 384,000, dated June 5, 1888.
(No model.)
To all whom it" may concern:
Be it known that I, FERDINAND STRAUSS, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at New York, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Postal Stamp and Ticket Holders, of which the followingis aspecification.
The postal-stamp and ticket holder forming the subjeet-matter of this application is adapted to be carried in the pocket; and it consists of an inelosing-case, a springacting drawer fitted to slide therein, a lid pivoted to the drawer, and a retention-cateh attached to the case for holding the drawer within the case against the action of its spring, all of which will be hereinafter fully described, reference being had to the accompanying drawi11gs,forn1- ing part of this specification, in which Figure l is a perspective view of my improved postal-stamp and ticket holder, showing the drawer open. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, showing the drawer closed. Fig. 3 is an enlarged longitudinal section on the line :10 as, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an enlarged plan showing the drawer open and the top plate of the ease removed.
The inclosing-case is composed of the bottom plate, a, the three sides a, a, and a formed integral with and bent up from the plate a, and the top plate, I), which is secured to the sides a, a and co by means of the lugs c c, projecting from the sides and bent over the plate, as clearly shown in the drawings. The rectangular box or drawer d is placed in the open end of the case and is fitted to slide freely therein. Between the drawer and the rear side, a of the case is placed the bent flat spring e, which, acting on the drawer d, forces it out of the case, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4. Said parts are prevented from being entirely separated by the rear wall, (1, of the drawer coming in contact with the projections ff, which are formed by parts of the top plate, I), being forced inwardly.
To hold the drawer (I closed against the action of the spring 6, a latch, g, pivoted to the top plate, I), catchcsinto the notch d, forme ill tin e pivoted end of the latch passes through the notch at when the drawer is pressed into the case, and the tooth 9 thereof catches against the side of the wall (1. This latch g is actuated by the spiral spring h, placed in the case between one of its sides and the lug g on the latch, and it is manipulated from its end which projects through the rear side, c of the case.
The drawer d is provided with a cover, 1', hinged to its side walls, and said cover carries springs z" i, which throw it into open position as soon as it clears the top plate of the case, as clearly shown at Fig, 1.
The postal-stamps or tickets j placed in the drawer d are fully protected when the device is closed up, and are held stationary therein by the springs i t" of the cover bearing on them, as shown in Fig. 2.
To obtain access to the postal-stamps or tickets, the projecting end of the latch. g is pushed over, so as to release the drawer d of the tooth g and allow the spring 0 to act and push the drawer out against the projections ff. 'They are then removed by first raising them up by the insertion of one of the fingers through the opening is in the bottom of the drawer d.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a postal-stamp or ticket holder, in combination, an inclosing-case open at one end, a drawer fitted to slide therein, a spring in the case for forcing the drawer out, and a springlatch located in the case for holding the drawer in closed position.
2. In a postal-stain p or ticketholder, in combination, an inclosing-case open at one end, a drawer fitted to slide therein, a cover hinged to the drawer, a spring in the case for forcing the drawer out, and a spring-latch located in the case for holding the drawer in closed position.
3. In a postal-stamp or ticket holder, in comtom, for the purpose set forth, and a spring latch located in the case for holding the drawer in closed position.
4. Ina postal-stamp or tiekctholder, in combination, an inclosing case open at one end, a drawer fitted to slide therein and having an 0 means of the lugs, of a spring-acting drawer fitted to slide in the case and a springaeting latch pivoted to the top plate and arranged to hold the drawer in closed position.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand, at New York, county and State of New York, this 6th day of January, A. D. 1888. FERDINAND STRAUSS. In presence of- H. D. WILLIAMS, G. A. STARRETT.
