To all whom it may concern Be itlrnown that l, Trroims F. Hnwnn, citizen of the United States, residing at Lewistown, in the county of Miliin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to devices for supporting bags and like receptacles while bein filled, and has for one of its objects to si plify and improve the construction and increase the efiiciency and utility of devices of this character.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily adjusted to bags of different lengths and will hold the bag suspended and in open position to receive its contents.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and des :ibed and then specifically pointed out in th claims; and in the drawings illustrative of the oreferred embodiment of the inventionl igure 1 is a perspective view of the improved device. Fig. 2 is an enlarged section on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the ears for supporting the grip devices. Fig. l is an enlarged sectional detail illustrating the mannor of constructing and applying the feed chute.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in tne following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

The improved device comprises a tubular shell 10 open the ends, and preferably cylindrical and with vertical sides. The shell 10 is supported by a plurality of legs 11 attached at their upper ends to the upper portion of the shell and inclined outwardly from the same so that the lower rim of the shell is unobstructed to permit the placing of the bag thereover, as hereafter explained.

The legs 11 are preferably tubular, and each leg is provided with an extension rod 12 held adjustably in position relative to tie legs by set screws 13. By this means the rods may be adjusted to correspond to any inequalities in the ground on which the device is disposed and thus retain the upper receiving end of the member 10 in horizontal position. it. bag engaging grip device is mounted to swing between each pair of the ears 14, each grip device comprising plates l617 having ears through which a pivot pin 18 passes, the terminals of the pin extending beyond the members 1617 and engaging in the inclined slots 15 of the ears l l. By this means the members 16-17 are swingingly supported, while at the same time may be readily detached by lifting them upwardly to disengage the pivot 18 from the slots. At their lower ends the members 16-17 are directed inwardly as shown at 1920, the inwardly directed portions overlapping and preferably serrated and forming the gripping element of the clip device. A spring 21 is engaged between the members 17l8 and operating to maintain the upper portions normally extended and the lower portions compressed and overlapping as illustrated in Fig. 2.

The bag to be supported is disposed by its open receiving end over the member 10 and engaged by the serrated portions 19-20 of the members 1617, the rods 12 having been adjusted so that the bag when suspended from the grip device is held free from the ground or just reaching the same. By this means the bag is held in open position to receive the contents which are poured through the open upper end of the shell 10. A. chute 9A is supported from the shell 10 by a depending lip which engages over the edge of the member 10 and extends downwardly a short distance therein, while bracket devices 23 are connected to the lower side of the chute and bear against the outer surface of the member 10 at a point considerably lower than the point where the lip 22 engages. The chute 24: is provided with vertical guides to conduct the grain or other material into the shell 10 and thence into the suspended therefrom.

The improved device is simple in construction, is constructed entirely of metal as light as possible consistent with the strains to which it will be subjected, and may be varied in size to correspond to bags of different capacities. A l
