GEORGE \V. WRIGHT AND ARTHUR H. BURNS, OF ENTERPRISE, KANSAS.
BAG-HOLDER.-
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 363,780, dated May 24, 1887.
Application filed July 19, 1886.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that we, GEORGE W. WRIGHT and ARTHUR II. Beans, both of Enterprise, in the county of Dickinson and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in that class of bag-holders which are composed of a portable frame carrying a ring or holder which supports the bag to be filled.
The object of our invention is to construct a simple and inexpensive bag-holder of this kind which can be readily set up and moved from place to place, and which can be adjusted to hold bags of different sizes.
Our invention consists of the improvements which will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of our improved bag-holder. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a front elevation, and Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation in line 00 m, Fig. 1.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the several figures.
A represents the upright standard of the bag-holder, which consists of a vertical rod provided at its lower end with curved arms or branches A. The ends a of the arms or branches Aare preferably pointed to form spurs, which penetrate the floor or ground.
B represents an inclined rod or brace, which is secured with its upper end to the standard A by a clamp or hook, O, The stem of the clamp or hook O is screw-threaded and inserted through an opening formed in the brace B and provided with a screw-nut, C. By tightening the screw-nut O the upper end of the brace B is clamped and held tightly against the standard by the clamp or hook O. The
lower end of the brace B is provided with a spur or point, I), which penetrates the floor or ground and prevents the same from slipping on the floor.
d represents a spur or hook pivoted to the brace 13 near its lower end, and adapted to be driven into the floor or ground and firmly hold the standard and brace in an upright position.
E represents the frame or holder which sup ports the bag, and which is provided on its Serial No. 208,380. (No model.)
serve as a funnel and facilitate the operation of filling the bag. By making the holder E .of oval form the mouth of the bag is better adapted to receive a grain-scoop than when the frame or holder is made of circular form, as in the latter case the mouth of the bag is narrower than an ordinary scoop, rendering it difficult to fill the bag without spilling the grain. The holder E is pivoted between the jaws of a bifurcated frame or yoke, F, which is secured to the upper end of the brace B. The holder E is provided with pivots or journals f, which are supported in eyes f in the ends of the frame F, whereby the holder is free to swing on its pivots. By supporting the holder or mouth-piece E in this manner the mouth of the bag can be readily secured to the holder and be removed therefrom when the bag has been filled, and enables the moutlr. piece to retain a horizontal position upon adjusting the same on the standard for different sizes of bags.
By loosening the set-screw C and detaching the spurs b (Z the brace Band the holder E can be adjusted up and down on the standard A to hold bags of various heights.
Our improved bag-holder is very simple in construction and can be produced at comparatively small cost. It occupiesbut little space, and can be readily set up and moved from place to place when desired.
WVe claim as our invention- 1. The combination, with the standard A,
of the brace B, adj ustably secured thereto and The holder Eis constructed of oval shape and made flaring upwardly, so as to shapedholderE, providedwith pivotsfiwhich ends to said bifurcated frame F, substantially are journaied in bearings formed in the jaws as set forth. F, substantially as set forth.
4. The combination, with the standard A I 5 and the brace B, adjustably secured near its upper end to the standard, and provided at its F. M. WATKINs, upper end with the bifurcated frame F and J. M. HOEY. at its lower end with a pivoted hook, d, of Witnesses tosignaturc of Arthur I-LBurns: the funnelshuped holder E, provided on its T. O. OOON,
1o outer side with hooks e and pivoted at its Guo. B. PATERSON.
