Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 22, 1921.
Application filed November 10, 1920. Serial No. 423,111.
To all 1.0 [mm it may concern:
Be it known that 1, MAX T. KLos, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wausau, in the county of Marathon, State of "Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sack or Bag Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in bag filling devices.
One object of the invention is to provide a bag holder whereby the mouth of a bag can be held in open position without danger of tearing the bag.
Another object is to provide a holding clamp for the mouth of a bag, while filling the bag, which properly supports the bag and prevents the same from slipping from the stand.
Other objects and advantages will'be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.

Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention. a bag being properly secured in the holder.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Fig. 8 is an enlarged vertical sectional view through the clamp and mouth of the bag, on the line -3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary detail sectional view of the rings or hands in disengaged position.
Referring particularly to the accompany ing drawing, there is shown, a stand which includes the legs 10 connected together, adjacent their lower ends, by means of the ring 11, and having secured to their upper ends the band 12. This band 12 is preferably iu the form of a split ring having a clamping screw 11 in one end for clamping engagement in a slot 12' in the other end of p the band. By this construction the band 12 is capable of easy and quick adjustment to fit bags of different sizes. This latter band is provided with the upwardly and inwardly extending spring fingers 13 for engagement with the mouth of the bag 14, which is drawn upwardly through the band and folded outwardly and downwardly around the band. Disposed 12 is a second slightly larger band 15, which is adapted to encircle the band 12 together around the bag mouth and above the band a with the portion of the mouth of the bag which has been turned down outwardly of the band 12. Connected to the band 15, and to the ring 11 are springs 16 which normally draw the band 1:73 downwardly into firm engagement around the mouth of the bag and the band 1.2. The purpose of the spring fin gers 1.3 is primarily to retain the mouth of the bag in open position on the band 12 until the band 15 can be lowered into encircling relation thereto. The band 15 is adapted to fit so snugly around the bag mouth and band 12 as to relieve the bag mouth of tearing strain.
Disposed adjacent the stand of the bag are the standards 17 through which are passed the rods 18, said rods being adjustable to different elevations. Supported on these rods 18 are the grading chutes each having longitudinal bars 15 at different distances apart to permit articles, such as potatoes. to fall therethrough, said chutes being numbered 19.
Secured to the upper band 15, and extending upwardly therefrom, is a surrounding flange 20 which prevents the potatoes, or other material from passing over the mouth of the bag supported on the stand.
What is claimed is:
1. A. bag holder comprising a stand having a horizontal ring or band at the upper end and provided with inwardly and upwardly extending bag mouth engaging spring fingers, a ring arranged to fit tightly first band. and springs connected to the second ring or band and to the stand for maintaining the said band in proper clamping relation to the mouth of the bag and the-first band.
2. A bag holder comprising a stand having a horizontal ring on the upper end thereof over which the mouth of a bag is adapted to be turned, leaf springs secured to the outer face of the ring and normally extending outwardly therefrom to receive the mouth of a bag between them and the ring, a second ring removably engaged on the first ring and being of a diameter to compress the springs against the mouth of a bag to firmly grip the same.
