A. DINKEL.
BAG SUPPORT.
men JULY 20. 1921.
1N VENTOR Awffiorgrjzhkai ATTORNEY Patented Jan. 9, 1923.
PATENT OFFICE.
ANTHONY DINKEL, OF ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY.
BAG SUPPORT.
Application filed July 20,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTHONY DINKEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Elizabeth, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bag Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in bag-supports, and particularly to a support for holding coal-bags in filling position.
The objects of my invention are to provide a simple, durable, and inexpensive support for holding a. bag in convenient position to be filled.
The invention comprises certain novel fea-. tures of construction, arrangement and combination of parts, hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim, but it is to be understood that modifications may be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
A. preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of my improved bag-support, and,
Fig. 2 is a vertical section showing a coalbag supported in filling position.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a frame adapted to rest upon the ground to provide a firm foundation for the support. The frame is preferably U-shaped, as shown, and. provided with a cross-strut 2, the ends of which extend outwards from the sides of the frame to give additional lateral stability.
Extending upwards from the side framemembers are two oppositely disposed standards 3-3, each having its upper end bent inward and slightly concaved to provide supports for engaging the handles A of the bag B. The standards are suitably braced, as by means of the diagonal stays 5 and 6.
7 indicates a tubular upright supporte at its lower end in a nipple 8 fastened to the central portion of the rear frame-mem- 1921. Serial No. 486,065.
her, and having a cap 9 on its upper end, which cap has an opening for receiving the stem 10 of the hook 11. The hook can be lifted up and dropped down to engage over the rear edge of the mouth of the bag B so as to hold the bag distended while it is being filled.
A segmental brace 12, extending from the opposite standards 3 around the upright 7, is provided to tie the parts together.
It will be seen, from the foregoing de scription, that my invention provides a support-for conveniently holding a coal-bag in proper position to be filled, and that as the front end of the frame is open, and as the front mouth-portion of the bag is free from obstructions, the operator can stand in close to the bag and can readily shovel coal into it.
I am aware that prior to my improvements bag-holders or supports having vertical standards have been devised, but with such holders it has been necessary to clamp or hook the bags in place and to adjust the holder to the size of the bag, whereas with my improved holder, having the upper ends of the oppositely disposed standards bent inward, no clamping or adjustment is required as the bag is supported by its handles on the inwardly bent portions 4 of the standards and is held distended by the sliding hook 11.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut. is
A holder for bags having handles, comprising a frame open at the front, a pair of standards at opposite sides of the frame having their upper ends bent inward at substantially right angles to provide fixed arms for engaging and supporting the handles of the bag. a tubular upright post at the rear of the frame, and a hook freely slidable in said post and adapted to catch. over the rear of the bag month to hold it distended.
