BAG-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 11, 1910.
Patented Oct. 18, 1910.
Serial No. 576,728.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES L. EAs'rHAn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Medora, in the county of Macoupin and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Bag-Holder, of which the following is such a full, clear,-and exact description as will enable others skilled in the art to make and use my said invention.
The invention relates to bag-holders for holding open the mouths of bags which are being fined.
The purposes of the invention are to provide a self-supporting bag-holder comprising few parts, of simple construction and small first cost and which may be folded for convenience in storage or transportation.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction and combinations of parts shown in the annexed drawing, described in the specification, and speci'lically recited in the claims.
In the drawing Figure 1 is an isometric view of the bag-holder mounted on a stationary support and supporting a bag on the extended bag-holder; Fig. 2 is an isometric view of the extended bag-holder, the folded posit-ion of the parts being indicated by dotted lines.
Similar reference numerals and characters designate like parts in both views.
The entire bag-holder is made of heavy wire or rods of suitable rigidity.
The frame comprises in an integral structure a horizontal member 1; vertical stand ards 2; parallel, forwardly extending arms 3; eyes at; hangers 5; and hooks G. The bail which serves to expand the mouth of the sack and keep it open comprises a horizontal bar 7; twistedside bars 8; eyes 9, fitting on the hooks 6; angular stops 10, on which the braces engage to support the bail; and hooks 12, adapted to hook into the fabric of the sack. The hooks 6 at the lower end of the hangers 5 serve to support the bail and are likewise adapted to hook into the fabric of the sack.
The side members 8 and the horizontal member 7 are formed from a single rod bent and twisted as shown, and this construction gives rigidity to the side bars sufficient to support the weight which they bear.
Braces 13 have at their upper end eyes 14 interlocking with the eyes 4 of the frame and have at their lower end loops 15 adapted to engage the stops 1.0 and also adapted to permit the stops to pass through the loops When the braces 13 are slid inward on the side bars 8.
In practical use of the bag-holder the frame will be supported on a stationary timber A, or equivalent support and the hangers 5 will extend downward in front of and abut against. the front face of the support. The sack to be filled will be hooked onto the hooks 6 and 12, and the members 7 and 8 of the extended bail will hold open the mouth of the sack, so that the sack may be filled in the usual manner.
W hcn the bag-holder is not in use the loops 15 will be disengaged from the stops 10 and will he slid inward on the side bars 8, and the bail will gravitate to the position indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2. lVhen the bag-holders are in this flat or retracted condition a large number of them will occupy relatively small space.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination of a supporting frame having arms turned to form eyes at the forward ends of said arms and having hangers terminated by hooks serving as sacksupports and also serving as hinge-connections for a bail supported on said hooks; a bail mounted on said hooks having angular stops, and braces connected in the eyes of said bars and having looped members engaging on the stops of said bars to support the bail in a horizontal position.
2. The combination of a supporting frame having arms turned to form eyes at the ends of said arms and having hangers terminated by hooks serving as sack supports and also serving as hinge-connections for a bail mounted on said hooks; a bail mounted on
