Description

I. R. HYER.
BAG HOLDER.
nrrucmou FILED APR. 2, 191
Patented Nov. 18, 1919.
JOHN R. HYER, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK.
. BAG I-IOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 2, 1919. Serial No. 286,871.
To aZZ whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, J OHN R. HYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Albany, in the oountyof Albany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following .to be a full, clear, and exact description'of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in bag holders, designed especially for use in holding garbage, etc., and consists essentially in the provision of a standard with a vertically adjustable collar thereon, having sockets in which the ends of ring sections are adjustably held, and lug having a hinged cover connected thereto, designed to hold the edges of the bag folded over the ring and serving as a closure to the bag.
My invention comprises further details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafterfully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part ofthis application, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my bag and holder, showing the same as applied to a tray which is shown in cross section.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view, portion being broken away.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail View in elevation of the adjustable collar mounted upon the standard showing a portion of the lid and bag with supporting ring fastened thereto, and
Fig. A is an enlarged detail plan view showing the standard in section.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by numerals:
1 designates a standard, which in the present instance is of tubular form and mounted in a socket member 2 secured to a tray 3, the latter being provided to catch any of the garbage which might fall over the edge of the bag while being filled, although, obviously, the holder may be used independent of the tray and supported in any suitable.
manner.
A collar A is mounted upon said standard and designed to be held at different elevations as may be desired to'adapt the same to different lengths ofbags, by means of a set screw 5. Said collar has two oppositely disposed socket projections 6, which are slightly curred longitudinally, as shown clearly in Fig. at of the drawings, and which are adapted to receive the ends of the ring 7, which are held adjustably therein through the medium of the set screws 8. Said ring 7 is capable of adjustment to adapt the same to different sizes of bags which it is designed to support while the bag is being filled.
A bag 9, preferably of fibrous material which is impervious to liquids by suitable treatment, is placed up through the ring and the upper edge of the bag turned down over the ring in the manner shown in Fig. l of the drawings, a sufficient portion of the bag being folded to permit the top to be drawn together and tied after the bag has been filled. By this means a sufficient length of the bag will always be afforded for beingtied to retain the contents of same. A tying cord 10 is firmly secured to inner face of the downwardly turned end of the bag by a suitable fastening means 11, shown in the cut-away portion of Fig. 1 to tie the bag when filled. By this provision tying means will always be at hand ready for use, said cord being attached to the bag preferably when manufactured.
In order to hold the downwardly folded portion of the bag over the ring, resilient clips 12 are provided, which are sprung over the ring and the folded part of the bag to securely hold the bag in place while being filled.
A lid 14: is provided with integral lugs 16 which are apertured and adapted to receive a bolt 18 passed through the same and also through an integral apertured projection 19 of the collar A, as shown clearly in Fig. A of the drawings forming a hinged relation therewith. It will be noted that the upper portion of the standard is slightly curved rearwardly from the bag and affords means against which the lid may rest when thrown back to an open position.
By the provision of a garbage bag and holder made in accordance with my invention, it will be noted that a convenient means is afforded which is adjustable to different Patented NOV. 18, 1919.
sizes of bags and which will afiord means for holding a suflicient portion of the upper open end of the bag folded down to enable the bag to be tied when filled, a tying means being always at hand in readiness to tie the bag, the bag being adapted to replace the usual unsanitary garbage can and made of a material which is impervious to liquids, and owing to its simple and inexpensive construction may be disposed of with the garbage. The device being provided with a lid the bag may be kept closed when not raised for filling purposes, thus providing a thoroughly sanitary garbage receptacle.
What I claim to be new is:
A bag holder, consisting of a standard with a collar adjustably mounted thereon, said collar having integral, hollow, curved lugs extending in opposite directions and in alinement with each other, a split ring, the ends of which are adapted to telescope within said lugsand held in difierent adjusted positions adapting the ring to different sized bags, said collar having an integral apertured projection midway above said lugs,
.a cover having apertured lugs, and a bolt JOHN R. HYER.
