Description

- 1,509,961 c. "r. LONG DRIP COFFEE MAKING DEVICE Filed Mafch 14 1923 gwuwntoz Patented Sept. 30, 1924.
inseam CHARLES TIIJGI-IMAN LONG, OF EUREKA, CALIFORNIA.
DRIP-COFFEE-MAKING DEVICE.
Application filed March 14, 1923. Serial No. 625,007.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES TILGHMAN LONG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eureka, in the county of Humboldt and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improve ment in a Drip-Coffee-Making Device, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in coffee strainers, and its primary object is to provide an improved means by which a coffee holding bag may be supported within an ordinary pot, leaving the hands of the operator free for the coffee making, in order to permit the making of drip coffee with an ordinary cofiee pot.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will positively clamp the bag at opposite sides of its mouth in several places so as tov effectually open the mouth of the bag for the purpose set forth A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction durable, eflicient for the purpose intended, and one that can be manufactured and placed on sale at a relatively low cost.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character in which all of its elements extend substantially in the same common plane so that a number of the devices may be packed into a comparatively small space in super-imposed relation for conveniently and economically shipping or storing them.
These and other objects of the invention will be better understood as the description follows and as is specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and which clearly illustrates the construction and use of my improved coffee holding bag,
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view taken through a coffee pot, showing a bag holder constructed in accordance with my invention supported in the mouth of the coffee pot, and
Figure 2 is a plan view of my improved coffee bag holder.
Referring to the accompanying drawing in detail, like characters will be used to d sign e l ke parts n the cl flerent viewsz In the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a bag which is shown merely for the purpose of illustrating the operation of my in vention. The invention consists broadly of a frame formed from a single piece of wire adapted to be bent in the form of a ring as at 2, and a series of three rings as indicated by the numerals 4:, 5, and 6 are formed from the single piece of wire on the periphery of the ring 2. The rings A, 5, and 6 are formed by bending a loop in the wire and then continuing the ring until the proper distance is reached for a next loop. At the intersection 7 of the wire forming the ring 2, a fourth loop 8 is formed. The purpose of the four loopswill be better understood as the description follows. After forming the fourth loop as designated by the numeral 8, the ends of the wire are twisted or wrapped about each other to form a handle 9. From the twisted portion of the handle, the strands of wire are bent outwardly in diverging relation to each other and thence rounded upon themselves in confronting engagement as at 10, providing means whereby the device as a whole may be supported from a nail or other support, so that same will be convenient for use at all times.
Each corner of the cloth or bag 1 is eX- tended downwardly through one of the rings A, 5, 6, and 8, and is drawn tightly between one of the loops thereof and part of the ring 2 as at Hand 7 of the loop 8 and then again passed through each of the said rings 4, 5, 6, and 8, as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings thus firmly clamping the bag or cloth to the ring 2.
In Figure 1, I have shown a coffee pot as designated by the numeral 12 for the purpose of illustrating how my improved bag or cloth holder is supported on the mouth thereof.
In view of the foregoing description of my invention taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought that any further explanation as to the construction, operation, and objects of same is unnecessary.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, I realize that various minor changes may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit and s pe f he in ent on cla m n th re fore, I do not Wish to limit myself to the exact details of construction shown, nor to the combination and arrangement of parts.
lVhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A bag holding device of the character described, formed from a single strip of Wire rounded upon itself to provide a ring, a plurality of loops forming rings and being arranged at equi-distantly spaced intervals in the periphery of the rounded portion said wire at the intersection of the rounded portion being further rounded in an opposite direction from the first mentioned rounded portion to provide a loop disposed diametrically opposite a centrally disposed 100p oi the filfst mcntioned, rounded portion,
said Wire having its strands from the second mentioned rounded portion twisted upon themselves and thence being arranged in diverging relation and further rounded upon themselves so as to bring the ends into confronting engagement to provide a handle and a nail receiving means whereby the device may he supported, and said loops being adaptable to receive a bag as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof, I have afiixed my signature in. the presence of two witnesses.
