FVLv-swATTEE." y
Application led October 9,
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE D. HENRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fly-Swatters, of which the fol-lowing is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in' fly swatters, and among the objects of the invention is the production of a durable, efficient, and simple device of this character which can be manufactured and marketed at comparatively small cost.
Further objects are the production of a novel and convenient handle whereby the de* vice can be firmly gripped while in use; new and simple means for firmly anchoring said handle to the wire fabric body of the del vice, and means whereby an advertising or other card can be removably held in place and provide a revenue for the manufacture in addition to that derived from the sale of the device itself.
IVith the foregoing objects in view and others which will hereinafter appear, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the complete device. i
Fig. 2 is a broken side elevation of the opposite side of the device disclosed by Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detail side elevation, enlarged, of a retaining member constituting a part of the invention.
Fig. 4 is a broken side elevation, enlarged, of the upper portion of the handle.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged, broken section on line V of Fig. 1.
l Fig. 6 is an enlarged cross section on line VI-VI of Fig. 1.
In carrying out the invention, I make the handle 1 of a single piece of wire folded intermediate its ends as indicated at 2 to form a long loop 3, whereby said handle may be conveniently grasped. The ends of the wire are bent, substantially, into a resilient heart shape member as indicated at,` 4, the converging sides of which are firmly connected together to keep them from spreading apart by coils 5.
6 designates the wire fabric body of the fly swatter, the two lower corners 7 of which are folded along lines converging to a point Specification of Letters Blatent.

androverlapping at the medial line of the body 6. The margin of the body 6 is covered by flexible binding 9 sewed or otherwise secured thereto, to prevent the rough edges of said body from coming into contact and marring polished surfaces struck with the device.
11 designates a retaining member for firmly holding the folded corners 7 over the heart-shaped portion 4 of the handle 1 and firmly anchoring said handle to the body 6.
Said retaining member 11 is provided at its opposite sides with a plurality of marginal fingers 12, adapted to be folded against the back of the body 6 to firmly hold the retailiing :member in place.
The overlapping corners 7 of the body are further secured by a flexible extension 14, connected to the upper central portion of the retaining member 11, as disclosed by Fig. 3. The extension 14, after passing over the folded corner 7, is passed through an interstice in the body 6 and then folded down against the back of said body as disclosed by Fig. 5, where its lower terminal is protected by a sheet metal card holder 15, the sides of which like the sides of the retaining member 11 converge downwardly to conform with the converging lines along which the corners 7 are folded.
` The sheet metal card holder 15' is fitted against the back of the fabric body G and held in place by marginal flanges 17, which extend around and overlap the front of the retaining member 1 1, suiicient space being left to admit a card A, upon which advertising or other matter is printed.
From the foregoing description, it is apparent that I have produced a fly swatter embodying all of the advantages above enumerated, and while I have shown and described the preferred construction of the device, I reserve the right lto make such changes as properly fall within the spirit and scope of the claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patfolded snug-ly over the heart-shaped end, a said fabric body and be folded against the retaining member adapted to lie against back thereof. 10 the folded corners of the body and provided In testimony whereof I affix my signature With marginal lingers adapted to be folded in the presence of two Witnesses.
