Description
T. G. JOHNSON.
' APatented Apn, 1915.
sr'ras THEODOR G. JOHNSON, 0F KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
DUST-MOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. e, 1915.
Application iled .Tune 1, 1911.1..- Serial No. 842,077. Y
To all whom it may concern.' l
Be it known that I, THEoDoRE- G. JOHN- soN, a citizen of the United States, at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dust-Mops, of which the following is a specification;
My invention relates to improvements in mops, and one object is to'provide a mop which can be readily placed in position upon a mop-head or quickly removed therefrom.
A further object is to provide a mop Which will inclose the mop-holder head, so that the latter cannot come into direct contact with and scratch mop-boards, furniture, etc.
A further obj-ect of the invention is to provide a well-made, durable, mop which may be used to advantage not only in cleaning andpolishing floors, but also Walls and ceilings as Well.
While I am not to be understood as restricting the use of my mop, with any par ticular type of holder', it may be used to advantage on the holder vdisclosed in' my copending application filed bearing Serial No. 767,583.'
In order that the invention may be fullyv understood, reference 'will now be made to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the mop open andr ready to apply to a mop-holder. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the mop closed as when applied to a mop holder.. Fig. 3 is a cross section on line III-III of Fig. 2.
.Fig. 4 is an inverted plan view of a main piece of fabric constituting a part of the mop. Fig. 5 is a. plan view of a top piece offabric forming a part of the mop.
In carrying out the invention, I employ a main piece of yfabric 1, of substantially triangular conformation in plan view, and provided with a rearwardly extending tongue 2.
3 designates a supplemental or top pieceA of fabric of the general conformation of the -v main piece of fabric 1, upon which it is firmly secured by marginal stitches 4. The top piece 3 and the main piece 1, are, preferably, made of canvas and when sewed to.-y
gether, as described, form apocket 5 toireceive the mop-holder head, not shown. An opening 6 extending forwardly from the rear end of the top piece 3, is formed in the latter to permit the bale of themop holder handle to swing back and forth. The tongue 2 and the top piece 3, are provided with an adjustable fastening device consisting of a residing v'tied together,l
May 14, 1913, and' l Patent, is
of the opening 6, vWhen the tongue 2 Vis folded forward, as disclosed by Fig. 2, to
cover the rear end of the mop head, said tongue is reliably secured in said folded position by passing the member 7 through any of the slots in the member 8.
9 designates a cord or tape which is sewed to the top piece 3, around which it extends near the margin thereof, for the purpose of securing cotton cord 10,v or other soft material, toy said top piece 3. The cotton cord 10 is of sufiicient length to overhang the stiff margins of the main v piece 3, to prevent said stiff margins from coming into direct contact with mop-boards and furniture. The ends of the tape 9, eX- tend a suficient distance beyond the rear ends of the top piece`3 to permit their being lines, Fig. 2, to prevent the rearl ends of the ypocket 5 from spreadingapart when the mop is in position upon a mop-head. The bottom of the main piece 1 is provided with rows of cotton cord 11, or other soft material, which is firmly held in place'by strips of tape 12, extending longitudinally and transversely of the mainpiece 1, to 'which they are firmly secured by stitches 13. flhe strands of the cotton cord 10`and 11 are engaged intermediate their ends by.' tapes 9- and 12, over, which they hang, as disclosed by Fig. 3, so that they cannot be pulled out of place. 1
From the foregoing description, it is apparent that I have-,produced a lmop embodying all the features of advantage above enumerated, and while I haveshown and described the preferred form of my invention,
I of course, reserve the right to make such changes in the. construction, combination'and arrangement of parts as properly fall within the spirit and s c'ope of the claims. v
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire o ysecure by Letters 1. A mop consisting of amain piece of fabric having a tongue extendingrearwardly a fastening device secured to said therefrom, tongue, a top fpiece of fabriclsecured to said main piece o fabric to' form a pocket, a fastening device on said toppiece to coact with the first-mentioned fastening device in securing the mop to a mop holder head, and
piece l and the topas indicated by the dotted I soft material secured 'to the main piece of fabric. y f r 2. A mop consisting of a main piece of fabric, a top piece of fabric secured to said main piece of fabric to form a pocket for the rreception of a mop holder head, a tape extending around Athe top piece near the margin thereof, cotton cord secured to the top piece by said tapex and adapted to overhang the margin of said 'top piece, and soft material secured to the underside of the main piece of fabric.
3. A mop consisting of a main piece of matos@ fabric, a top piece of vfabric secured to said fabric `to form a pocket for 15 main piece of the reception of a mop holder head, soft material secured to said top piece and adapted to overhang the margin thereof, and soft material depending from the underside of the main piece of fabric.
ln testimony whereof I affix my signature, in the presence of two Witnesses.
I THEODORE G. JOHNSON. Witnesses:
F. G. FISCHER, FRED` C. FISCHER.
