Abstract
A back stop and refuse receiver has a frame which holds a flexible net in generally upright position above the ground with a hole in the net''s bottom under which receptacles are placed. The frame preferably has telescoping beams, that permit adjustments to be made to the height of the net above the ground. The frame can be set on the ground adjacent roadsides so that passing motorists and car passengers can toss cans, bottles and other trash into the net, whereupon the trash collects in the receptacles placed beneath the net. The frame holds the net in angular or curved positions to present as large a target as possible to passing cars. Owing to the adjustable parts and quick disconnect parts, the receiver can be readily set up and moved to various selected sites.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT The receiver 1 is composed of a plurality of generally upright beam supports, preferably two forward supports 3 and two rear supports 5. The supports'3'and rear supports 5 each have telescoping upper parts 4 and 6 respectively with the supports fitting within the upper parts as shown in phantom in. FIG. 1. The supports 3 and 5 each have ground engaging feet 7 and 9 respectively, and the forward and rear beam supports at each side are interconnected intermediate their ends by a horizontal brace beam 11 below upper portions 4 and 6. The Supports 3 and 5 with their upper portions 4 and 6, converge upwardly to a generally top horizontal beam 13 to resemble an A when viewed from the side.
The brace beams 11 are held in a sleeve joint 15 and 17, at their forward ends respectively, by friction fit or other quick release connection. Likewise, the top horizontal beam 13 is joined to upper portions 4 and-6 by a sleeve joint 19 at each side of the receivers. A series of matching holes 21 in the upper portions 4 and 6 are provided and pins 23 fit in the holes 21 to retain the re ceiver I at the desired height.
A net 25, preferably made of flexible durable material such as wire, nylon or rope, is secured to beam 13 and upper support portions 4 and 6 by rings 27 so that the net 25 can be quickly erected or collapsed. The net 25 can depend from beam 13 in a slack state to form a pocket structure which is substantially horizontal along the bottom having a width of l 3 feet and an aperture in the center thereof.
With the above arrangement, refuse and debris can be tossed against the net which absorbs the kenetic energy of the trash and guides same down to the aperture 26. The aperture 26 is located substantially above the ground so that a can 29 or other receptacle can be replaced and withdrawn from below the received 1 as needed.
The frame is best placed to hold the net 25 so that it slopes and is angled upwardly as seen in FIG. 1. Thus, angle A can be about 60, angle B about 45 and angle C about 75. A target 30 (FIG. 3) can be located about centrally on the back of thenet as an inducement. Also an advertising sign 33 can be secured to horizontal beam 13.
The rear supports 5 for the receiver and the extensions for the supports can be held in place by cross wire stays 35.
It is preferred that the frame be made of aluminum tubing and that the sleeves l5, l7 and 19 be cast aluminum which can be threaded to the tubing orsimply friction fitted. For securing the receiver 1 to the ground,
the feet 9 can be anchored by bolts to cement blocks if desired and the blocks can be sunk underground.
What isclaimed is:
1. A trash receiver comprising a frame with net means supported in generally upright position on said frame, said frame including upright spaced-apart tubular beam supports for supporting the receiver on the ground and a generally horizontal beam connected to the upper portions of said beam supports, at least two of said tubular beam supports being parallel and substantially inclined relative to the horizontal, a plurality of ring means slidably received on said two tubular beams, said net means being a resilient member securedby said ring means between said two tubular beam supports and to saidihorizontal beam whereby it can be drawn up proximate to said horizontal beam, said net means depending loosely downwardly from said horizontal beam to form a pocket terminating with a bottom having an aperture therein above the ground, whereby a removable receptacle can be placed to re- .ceive refusethrown against said net means and passing through said aperture.
2. A trash receiver according to claim 1, wherein said frame as seen from the side has generally the configuration of an A."
3. A trash receiver according to claim 1, wherein said beam supports each have ground engaging feet and 5. A trash receiver according to claim 4, wherein the telescoping parts of said beam support are fixable in a plurality of settings by locking means.
6. A trash receiver according to claim 5, wherein said support beams are metal tubes and said locking means includes holes in the telescoping parts thereof with insertable pins for said holes. 7
7. A trash receiver according to claim 1, wherein a target display sign is secured to the receiver adjacent the center of the net means.

A trash receiver according to claim 1, wherein there are two forward beam supports comprising said two tubular beam supports, and two rear beam supports, the net means being connected by said ring means solely to the forward supports and said rear sup- ,beam supports provided on each side of said receiver,
said supports being interconnected with sleeve fittings, said net means comprising a rope net which is slidably attached to said supports and the horizontal beam whereby the receiver can be quickly collapsed and moved from one site to another, said net means depending loosely downwardly from said horizontal beam in the form of a pocket and terminating with a bottom having-an aperture therein above the ground, whereby a removable receptacle can be placed to receive refuse thrown against said net means and passing through said aperture.
Claims (9)
1. A trash receiver comprising a frame with net means supported in generally upright position on said frame, said frame including upright spaced-apart tubular beam supports for supporting the receiver on the ground and a generally horizontal beam connected to the upper portions of said beam supports, at least two of said tubular beam supports being parallel and substantially inclined relative to the horizontal, a plurality of ring means slidably received on said two tubular beams, said net means being a resilient member secured by said ring means between said two tubular beam supports and to said horizontal beam whereby it can be drawn up proximate to said horizontal beam, said net means depending loosely downwardly from said horizontal beam to form a pocket terminating with a bottom having an aperture therein above the ground, whereby a removable receptacle can be placed to receive refuse thrown against said net means and passing through said aperture.
2. A trash receiver according to claim 1, wherein said frame as seen from the side has generally the configuration of an ''''A.''''
3. A trash receiver according to claim 1, wherein said beam supports each have ground engaging feet and telescoping parts to adjust the height of the horizontal beam and net means from the ground.
4. A trash receiver according to claim 1, wherein said beam support each have telescoping parts, including upper and lower parts, said net means being secured to the corresponding upper parts of said beam supports.
5. A trash receiver according to claim 4, wherein the telescoping parts of said beam support are fixable in a plurality of settings by locking means.
6. A trash receiver according to claim 5, wherein said support beams are metal tubes and said locking means includes holes in the telescoping parts thereof with insertable pins for said holes.
7. A trash receiver according to claim 1, wherein a target display sign is secured to the receiver adjacent the center of the net means.
8. A trash receiver according to claim 1, wherein there are two forward beam supports comprising said two tubular beam supports, and two rear beam supports, the net means being connected by said ring means solely to the forward supports and said rear supports being interconnected to one another by stays.
9. A trash receiver comprising a frame with net means supported in generally upright position on said frame, said frame including upright spaced-apart beam supports for supporting the receiver on the ground and a generally horizontal beam connected to the upper portions of said beam supports, at least two of said beam supports provided on each side of said receiver, said supports being interconnected with sleeve fittings, said net means comprising a rope net which is slidably attached to said supports and the horizontal beam whereby the receiver can be quickly collapsed and moved from one site to another, said net means depending loosely downwardly from said horizontal beam in the form of a pocket and terminating with a bottom having an aperture therein above the ground, whereby a removable receptacle can be placed to receive refuse thrown against said net means and passing through said aperture.
