J. LOBAUGH. y QOMBINED-FUSE AND FILE HOLDER.
No. 482,642. Patented Sep-t. 13, 1892.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE..
JOHN LOBAUGII, OF ORENSHAV, PENNSYLVANIA.
COMBINED FUSE ND FILE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming` part of Letters Patent No. 482,642, dated September 13, 1892..
Application led May 2, 1892. Serial No. 431,524. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, .I OHN LOBAUGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Orenshaw, in the county of Jefferson and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Fuse and File Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention consists of a combined fuse and tile holder or receptacle by means of which each of said articles is safely housed and convenient at hand when required for use.
The object of theinvention is therefore apparent, and the details of construction will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective View of the receptacle complete. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of Fig. l on line oc oc.
The combination-receptacle consists of the compartments l 2, joined together in any suitable manner, the latter being preferably longer and of less area in cross-section, and is adapted to accommodate or inclose the iile usually forming part of a miners equipment, while the former lies parallel to the part just referred to and forms a pocket for fuses or squibs cut the proper length.
In order to hold the le positively in its housing, I secure the spring 3 to one of the walls in such manner that its free end will reach inward and bear against said instrument and hold it against accidental displacement.
Loosely mounted in the lower end of compartment 1 is the cup or false bottom 4, provided with the rod 5, which reaches through a hole in the bottom of compartment l, and it will be understood that by pushing against the free end of said rod the cup or bottom 4 will be moved with its contents toward the upper end of the receptacle lin which it is placed, and thus carry the fuses, whether long or short, that they may be readily grasped and removed. Without the intervention of the movable bottom just described it would be difficult to remove the squibs or fuses, especially if there were any short sections; but with my invention they can all be secured with ease.
Upon one of the outer sides of the receptacle I provide the ear or loop 6, through which a strap may be passed, enabling the device to be attached to the belt, and thus conveniently carried by the person using it.
It will be conceded that I have provided a convenient, cheap, and very useful article especially adapted for use in mines and other damp places where it is difficult to keep in a dry condition the fuses and tool forming so essential a part of a miners outfit.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A le and fuse holder consisting of the parallel compartments 1 2, the former having the retaining-spring and the latter provided with an upwardly-movable bottom and a suitable means for raising the same, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I afl-lx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
