, IMPROVE!) WASH-Bomen. Y
muon-.
` `The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part ofthe same.
Be it known 'that I, JAMES ARMSTRONG, of Buoyrus, in the county of Orawibrd, and ,State of Ohio,
have invented a newand useful Improved Wash. Boiler; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description; thereof, reference j `being had to the accompanying drawing, in whichf Figure 1 is -a plan view, with thecover removed; 1
Figure 2, a longitudinal `vertical section, taken in Figures 3, '4, and 5 are perspective views of theV in- 'Ihe nature of myinvention consists inthe peculiar construction of the several `parts used in the interior ofthe boiler, which may be made of wood organy other suitable material.
'.lo enable those skilled in thelart to make anduse my invention, I will proceed to describe its construetion and operation.
'In the drawingl h A represents the exterior portion of the boiler,
` which is of the ordinary construction.
B is a false bottom, which is placed inside the boiler;
This is formed of two i'lat pieces' secured together by means of side pieces c a., which extend downbelow the tlat pieces B, and rest ou the bottom of the boiler,` thereby leavinga water-space between the bottom of the boiler andthe false bottom B.
The two flat parts oi' the bottom 4B are inclined from their outer ends downward, Lbut do not meet,
. thereby leaving au open space'bfor the passageof 2 C, which are connected to the bottom B by means of lugsd, on their lower ends, parts of .which fit into recesses e, in the 'ends of the bottom B, and the ends o f the lugs extend under the said bottom. .l
`circulation Vof water.
In the inner sides ofthe upright pieces G C are grooves f.
D is a cover, which is placed over the clothes after they have been put in the boiler.
Ou one end of this cover is a lsliding piece E, attached to which is an arm, g, in which is a slot, h, through which a pin is driven into the cover D.
After theclothes have been placed in lthe'boiler, to'
hold the cover D in its position, insert the solid end into one of the grooves f in one of the end pieces C, then move the sliding piece E into one of thev grooves in theother end piece C. I This isheld there by a pin, t', placed in the cover D, at the rear end ofthe arm g.
In the cover D are slots, which may be made either longitudinally or transversely, to allow the water to Y pass down through the clothes. Its operation is as follows:
The clothes having been placed in the boiler, and it A supplied with a snicient quantity of water, when that in the water-space under the false bottom is heated suciently to make it boil, it passes up the spaces at each end of the boiler, and Aflows over the end' pieces C, ou to the cover D, down through the slots and clothes, ,and through the opening b,`in the bottom B, back into the water-space, thus keeping np a constant Having 'thus fully described my invention,
WhatI claim,a`ud desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv l. The bottom B, when constructed substantially as and for the purpose shown and described.
2. The removable adjustable top D, when constructed substantially as shown and described.
3. The combination of the bottom B, top D, and
end pieces C O, when constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described.
JAMES ARMSTRONG.
