Letters Patent N 0. 97,359,
dated November 30, 1869.
IMPROVED NECK-YOKE.
Be it known thatI, GEORGE I. Cone, of Hudson, in the county of Lenawee? and in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yokes; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description there of, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
ing a part of this specification.
The nature of my inventionconsists in the construction and arrangement of a neck-yoke, but more particularly in the manner of fastening the eye-bolt to the same.
The figure, in the accompanying drawings, represents my neck-yoke, the portion at one end, at E, being a side elevation, and the end, at F, being seotioned to show the passage of the bolt.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, to make and use the same, I will now proceed. to describe its construction and operation, referring to, the annexed drawings, which represent a side view of my invention, partrin sec- A represents the neck-yoke, which, at each end, is provided with a metal band, a, a hole being made through said band and the end of the neck-yoke for the insertion of the eye-bolt b.
In the upper side of the yoke A, under the band a, is embedded a nut, c, the hole in which corresponds with the hole in the end of the ,yoke.
The eye-bolt b is provided with screw-threads, and, being inserted into the hole in the end of the yoke, is screwed into the nut e, and thus held firmly in position.
The lower end of the eye-bolt b is formed in the shape of a loop or small ring, in which is suspended an open ring, B.
The ends of the open ring B are connected by a screw-bolt, and between these ends, on said screwbolt, is placed aroller, (1. v
In the common neck-yoke the ring soon wears out the breast-strap, but with the use of the roller (1, the
strap will last for years.
The eye-bolt c, from which the pole-ring D is sus-' pended, is attached to the yoke A, in the same man nor as the eye-bolt b b, by means of a nut embedded in the upper side of the yoke, metal plates f f being placed on both the upper and lower sides of the yoke.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. Securing the eye-bolt of a neck-yoke to the yoke itself, by means of the ferrules and the nuts embedded in the yoke, substantially as herein set forth.
2. The combination of the yoke A, metal bands (t a, eye-bolts b b, and nuts 0 c, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. The combinationof the yoke A, eye-bolts b 1), nuts 6 c, staples 0, rings 13 B, rollers 01 d, and pole-ring I), all constructed and connected substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I. have hereunto sct my hand, this 8th day of May, 1869.
, GEORGE P. COLE.
