Description
R. H'. GUYER. Vehicle-Seat Spring-Fastening,
Patented June. 18, I878.
WITNESSES KTTORNEYS MPEYERS, FHDTO LITNDGRAPMEIL WASHINGTON, I10.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
RICHARD H. GIT YER, OF LA FAYETTE, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN VEHICLE-SEAT-SPRING FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 205,078, dated June 18, 1878; application filed November 26, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD H. GUYER, of LaFayette,in the county of Tippecanoe, and in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inVehicle-Seat- Spring Fastenin gs; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to springs for vehicleseats made in spiral form; and it consists in the construction of a fastening for the same, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to de scribe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in whicha Figure 1 is a vertical section of a spiral vehicle-seat spring, with the fastening-plates on the ends thereof. Fig. 2 is a view of one of said plates.
A represents a spiral spring, such as are used to support vehicle-seats. B B represent the fastening-plates for the same. These plates are made in round form, with ears B B projectin g from opposite sides, through which are made holes a, for the passage of screws or nails to fasten the same to their proper places.
On the face of each plate B are formed two or three lips or projections, G 0, having their outer edges grooved, as shown at b I), such groove in each lip forming the arc of a circle. The end of the spring A is, so to say, screwed into the grooves on the lips 0, whereby the spring becomes firmly held to the plate, and will not become detached accidentally, while at the same time, when desired, they can be easily detached. The tension of the spring can also be adjusted by screwing it up more or less.
This device may be used for fastening spiral springs for other purposes as well as for vehicle-seats.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the two circular plates B B, each having projecting therefrom the perforated ears B B, and having each on its inner face the hooked lips G O, with the coilspring A, the upper and lower coils of which respectively bear directly on the body of the plates B B, substantially as and for the pur poses herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of November, 1877.
RICHARD H. GUYEB.
