IMPROVEMENT IN WATCH-CASE SPRINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 79,179. dated June 27, 1876; application filed April 4,1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES O. FARGIOT, of San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in VVatch- GaseSpring; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, Clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being 11 ad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters ofreference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a watch-case spring, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. a
In the annexed drawing, Figures 1 and'2 are plan views of the two kinds of watchsprings for Cases embodying my invention. Figs. 3 and 4 are interior views of the same.
A represents the body of the spring, which consists simply of a metal bar curved to fit the interior of the rim of the watch-case. This bar is fastened, in the usual manner, by a screw through the rim of the case into the hole a therein, as shown. B represents the spring proper, formed on its outer end with the usual projection 0, according to the position of the spring in the watch-case. This spring lies in a cut-out on the inner side of the bar A, and has its inner end formed with a V-shaped notch, b, fitting over'a corresponding shoulder, 61, on the bar. The spring is then fastened by a screw, t, passing through the inner end of the spring into the bar A.
By this construction the spring can be made entirely by machinery, and the body or bar A maybe much longer than those now in use. If the spring part B should get broken, it can easily be removed and another part substituted Without removing the body A. The tension of the spring can be easily regulated by the simple turning of the screw 2'. The spring part B may also contain a larger quantity of Steel than those now in use, which is of great advantage, as it strengthens the center-the most important point about the spring.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The Combination of the curved bar or body A with V-shaped shoulder (l and the spring B, formed with the V-sha-ped notch I), and adjusted by means of the screw i, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
