UNITED STATES PATENT CFFIOE.
GEORGE F. BLAISSE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
v IMPROVEMENT IN SLIDINGICHANDELIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,003, dated J one 17, 1873; application filed April 12, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE FREDERIC BLAISSE, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State ofPennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sliding Chandeliers and Pendants; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical central section of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of sliding pipe. Fig. 3 is a detail view.
My invention has reference to gas pendants and chandeliers, the object being to provide which said pendant or harp is secured. d
shows the rack or notched bar, which is rigidly secured to the side of the sliding pipe. E is a screw-cap filled on the lower end of the pipe B, and having a notch, c, Fig. 3, through which the rack passes. e is a spring secured to said cap, and pressing against the rack 11, so as to hold the pipe in any required position, a facet of the rack resting upon the upper edge of the bottom of the cap, as plainly shown in the drawing. The notch e is of sufficient size to allow the rack to slide easily through it.
Owing to the peculiar shape of the teeth ,on the rack, formed with an abrupt and slanting edge, the pipe may be easily slid up, the slanting facet operating as a wedge. In order, however, to draw the pipe down, and thereby lower the pendant or harp, the said pipe must be turned, pressing back the spring and allowing the rack to clear the cap and slide easily through the notch.
"I have shown this improvement applied to a single pendant; but it is obvious that it will apply equally as well to the sliding pipe of a chandelier.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The rack 01 secured to the sliding pipe D, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In combination, with the rack 01 and notched cap E, the spring 0, as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of April, 1873.
GEORGE F. BLAISSE.
