Letters'Patent No. 112,173, dated February 28, 1871.
IMPRCVEMENT IN FAUCETS.
The Schedulel referred to in these Letters Patent and making'rpax-t of the same.
To all whom, 'it may concern Be it known that I, CORNELIUS B. OSULLIvAmof .the city of New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans,
vthe destructive action of chemicals upon the thread of the screw, and its corrosion and wear from sand or othersubstances held in suspension or solution therein.
The drawing represents an elevation, partly in section, of my improved faucet, in which B Bis a chamber screwed into the body of the faucet, and C C a gland screwed into the chamber B B.
The space g, between the lower end of this gland C O, and the bottom ofthe chamber B B, constitutes the stuffing or packing-box.
The gland O C has also a female screw to t the thread cut on the valve-rod D, whereby the valve E is raised or lowered.
The valve-rod D is provided with a removable hand, f, to facilitate taking apart-the several pieces of the faucet for the purpose of packing or repairing the same.
It is obvious that by this arrangement the liquid drawn is never in contact with the thread of the screw, and the latter can be easily oiled to lessen the friction, and thus the durability ofithe device more than doubled.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Ibe chamber B B, in combination with the gland C C, valve-rod D, and the body of the faucet, substantialiy as described and set forth.
