Description

nited 53m-tet @anni @tft ire,
Leners Paten No. 92,717, dated Lagon, 1869.
y IMPRovED HARNESS-SADDLn-TREB.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that vI, GEORGE D. GILLETT, of Me-` ridian, in the county of Cayuga, and State of New York, have 'invented a new and useful Improvement in Gig-Saddle-Trees; and I do hereby declare that the V following isa clear, full, and exact description thereof,
which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a central vertical section, -aud Figure 2 is a sectional plan view.V
Similar letters of reference indicate-like parts.
This invention consists in making the crupper-loop detachable, and in attaching the checkfhook and erupper-loop to the bow, by means of dovetail-joints, in
connection with screws or rivets, which bind the bowA and ,cantle together, in such manner that the screw -fastening of the check-hook is relieved of strain, and
the check-hook and crupper-loop; and, when these have been seated, the cantle B is placed over all, and the whole bound together by screws e e passing upward from the lower side of the bow.
The screw-heads are conntersunk in the lower face of the bow, so that no uneven suifaces are presented that can gall the back of the horse, and the whole is put together in a cheap and solid manner.
By these means, I secure the several parts to each other with a greater degree of rigidity than ordinarily;
and, if a crnpper-loop becomes broken, it is easily renewed, without having to also renew the bow.
I do not claim, broadly, adetachable cruppeinloop,
as'I am aware that such is not new; but having thus described my invention, l
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described saddle-tree for harness, composed of the part A, cast with lugs a a, a' a', the crnpper-loop D, and check-rein hook C, having dovetailed Shanks, and the part B, all secured together byl means of screws e e, and constructedand arranged substantially as shown and described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 15th day of December, 1868.
' Gr. D. GILLETT.
