Letters .Patent No. 89,407, dated Apr/111,27, 1869.
DWPROVEMENT IN CLEVIS.
The Schedule referred to-in these Letters Patentand making part of the same.
To all whom fit may concern.-
Be it .known that I, G. W. HoLToN, of Berlin, in the county of Bracken, and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and improved Glcvis for Plows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thcreof,which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in plowclevises, designed to provide an improved arrangement -for varying the depth of cutting.
The invention consists in making the end-bar of the clevis considerably longer than the present construction, preferably arranging the elongation below the part engaging the plow-beam, and providing, in the said end, as many htchiug rings as it will support, by
passing through transverse holes, and preserve a stifliowing to the breadth requiredof the said notches, and4 accomplishing the samev more easily, I extend the ver tical bar A considerably below the lower horizontal bar B, bracing it thereto by a strap, O.
In the said vert-ical bar A, and transversely thereof, I arrange as many hitching-rings, D, as may be done, and preserve the strength required.
VThese ringsrequire materially 'less space than the system of notches commonly employed, and thereby I am enabled to employ a much greater number of rings than not-ches, by which the .changes may be graduated much more satisfactorily.
By this arrangement, it is more convenient to change from one gradation to another, which `is laccomplished by simply unhooking from one ring, and hooking into another, while the old plan requires the disengagement of the clevis from the plow-beam.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Clevises, having the extended front bar provided with the bitching-rings D, and braced, all substantially as specied.
