-HOW.

To all whom it may conce/ra Be it known that I, J. L. HOOD, of the county of Floyd, in the State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Double-Footed Plow- Stocks; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, olea-r, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a plan view of my improved plow; Figure 2 is a side ele'sation of the same; and Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal section of one of the side-beams and plow-feet.V

'lhe nature of my invention consists in the use of short side-beams uponeither side of'the main o1" draught-beam, for the support of the plow-feet, and in the means employed for securing said side-beams to the draught-beam, so as to permit of their adjustment laterally, to any distance from each other that may be desired.

- It also consists in the means employed for attaching the plow-feet to theside-beams, by which any desired angle of inclination can be given to the plows, so as to allow of the use of a large and small plow upon the stock at the same time.

In the annexed drawing- A represents the main or draught-beam, having attached to its rear end two handles, B B, in the usual manner.

C and G represent two short side-beams, each of which is secured upon opposite sides of the draught-beam by means of two bolts c c passing through its ends and through said draught-beam, the rear bolt of the righthand side-piece C being extended, so as to form the front bolt of the opposite, or left-hand side-piece.

In order that the side-pieces may be adjusted laterally, to any desired width, blocks D D, Ste., of different thickness, are placed 'upon the bolts c c, by changing` one or more of which from the inside tor the outside of said beams, or the rev-ersethc desired object 'is `attained.

' These blocks are slotted from the hole, through their l /centre to tbc outside, so as to permit of their removal ii'om the bolts, withoutremoving either nut or beam.

Pivoted within a vertical longitudinal slot, in the rear end of each side-piece, C or C', is the upper end and has secured to its lower end a share, F.

A bolt, G, passes at a right angle through said foot, midway between its ends, and extends upward through a suitable opening in the forward end ofthe side-piece, its upper end being provided with a nut, g.

I The slots in the side-pieces are of suiiicient length va'ted or depressed, by means of the bolt G, as far as may be "necessary to secure the proper vertical adjustment of the plows, by which arrangement plows of different sizes may be used upon the stock at the same time.

This plow-stock possesses many advantages over any in use, among which are the following:

First, by the arrangement of thesliort side-beams, no angular braces and supports. for the plows are required, the strain of said plows being directly in aline with said beams.

Second, the means employed for seeming the sidebeams to the draught-beam permits the lateral adjustment of the former to any desired distance from each other, with but little expenditure of time and labor. Third, the arrangement ofthe plo\vfeet,sidebeams, and brace-rods permits the vertical adjustment ofthe time.

Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits of my invention,

,What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isT- y The within-described plow-stock, consisting of the draught-beam A, lthe side-beams G and G, the bolts c c, and blocks D D, 86e., the plow-feet E E, and supportrods G. G, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose shown.

Also, the side-beams C and G', in combination with the bolts c c and c, and blocks D D, 85e., substantially as and for the purpose specified. In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 24th day of May, 1869.
